Bio

Joey is considered by many to be one of the pre-eminent trumpet talents of our time. His skill with classical playing is unprecedented as can be witnessed by hearing him play the Partita BMV 1006 by J.S. Bach (written for Violin). In addition to his classical prowess, Joey has a jazz sound like no other player in history. “Combining his classical sensibility with his jazz playing has fostered a sound that will change the face of Jazz forever.”

– Charlie Schlueter ~Principal trumpet, Boston Symphony~

Whether playing 16th notes at blinding speed or double Eb’s with ease and tonal perfection, Joey is at ease with his trumpet and embodies the definition of an “instrument acting as an extension of ones self.”

His debut release “Resonance” is a sophisticated and scholarly journey. “Resonance” Features classical and Jazz music recreated in a fantastical journey that has been described as elegant, edgy, and rarely unique. Featuring such legendary talent as Freddy Cole, Daryl Sherman, Phoebe Snow, and Jack Antonoff, “Resonance" is a thrilling one of a kind tribute that is sure to capture the heart of its audience.

Joey is an alumnus of the Juilliard School in New York City and The New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. Among his many honors, Joey is privileged to have been the 2000, 2001, and 2002 Soprano Trumpet Individual Champion. Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Roberts Wesleyan College Wind Ensemble, Senior High All County Band, New York’s All-State Band, New York All-State Orchestra, and All State Symphonic Band, are among the groups that Joey played with before age eighteen. While at Juilliard, Wynton Marsalis took an interest in Joey’s musical ability and began teaching him privately for the next several years. Often, Joey is seen playing the 24K gold brush, Monette trumpet that was a gift from his mentor, Mr. Marsalis. Joey played second chair on tour with jazz legend Maynard Ferguson and the Big Bob Nouveau, was the featured performer for the 2007 K-1 Fighting Chamionships at the Los Angeles Coliseum, and has been the featured artist for the following corporate retreats: E-Bay, Kellogg’s, Publix Market, McDonalds, and many more.

Teaching experience includes: Manhattan School Prepatory; faculty, Inter-Scholastic Organization; faculty (orchestra, band), Ghost Riders Mini Corps; caption head and arranger, St. Joe's Alumni Corps; brass consultant and arranger NESBA and MICCA; field band judge.

Joey has spent the last year working on his much anticipated debut release, “Resonance
