Johanna captivates and seduces the audience with her virtuoso accordion playing and charmingly humorous small talk…
Accordion playing at its hottest! - Johannes Adolfsson / ltz.se 3.3.2013

"Johanna Juhola: Fantasiatango album review"

a creative accordionist whose second solo album Fantasiatango (Fantasy tango) is a gold strike. The title sums up the essential: this is tango-based, fresh and joyous fantasy music. The album is full of exuberant colors, clever tricks and gentle playfulness. - Markus Luukkonen / Etelä-Suomen Sanomat 27.2.2010

"Johanna Juhola: Fantasiatango album review"

The music reminds me of Edward Scissorhands, amusement parks, Buenos Aires tango halls, dark conifer forests and Pippi Longstocking in a toy store. It is at times spirited, at times sad, and at times mystic. As a whole the album it is carefully crafted and intelligent. With enough skill rules can be broken imaginatively. Fantasy tango lives up to its title. When you wish to escape reality, Fantasy tango takes you on a rich mental and musical journey. Try it while waiting for a train or a flight. - Risto Haapsamo / Kaleva 25.2.2010

"Johanna Juhola: Miette album review"

Accordionist Johanna Juhola’s first solo album is wonderful. There is skilful playing, imaginative compositions and arrangements, humour, surprises, sensitivity, originality…. Johanna’s music is golden-rimmed and sunny. - Arja Kangasniemi / Trad (music magazine) 4/2006

Charismatic and playful accordionista Johanna Juhola conjures a magical world that blends Buenos Aires tango halls with dark Finnish forest landscapes. Laced with both melancholic nostalgia and uplifting exuberance, Johannas music is an original blend of contemporary tango and inventive use of electronica. A well-known face on the Finnish music scene, her openening piece commissioned for the 2007 Eurovision song contest was watched by tens of millions around the world.
Johanna Juhola Trio is an ensemble of three virtuosos led by Johanna. Characteristic musical features of the group include spontaneous and subtle interraction, alternation between intimate and slightly surreal moods, and an appreciation of on the one hand simplicity,  and on the other, uninhibited flowing improvisation. Hannu spices up the sound of the acoustic instruments with samples and effects added during the performance. Many of the pieces have originally been composed for theatre and so are intended to represent a short story. Examples include pieces about a limping man, who created an unique tango dancing style, about a perfect little moment, and about the hectic modern times.
Johanna Juhola Trio performs together on two albums, Johanna Juhola: Fantasiatango (Texicalli Records 2010) and Johanna Juhola: Fantasiatango 2 (Johanna Juhola Music 2012). The first concert of Johanna Juhola Trio was in Switzerland in the spring of 2008. In addition to their native Finland, the trio has performed in Russia, Germany, Algeria, Denmark, Mexico, France, Norway, Japan and Sweden.
"Thanks to this naughty innovator, the tango's lifespan has been extended by at least another century.""Refreshing, different, magical, young, pearl of world music."Johanna captivates and seduces the audience with her virtuoso accordion playing and charmingly humorous small talk."Johanna Juhola has been called one of the most interesting innovators of accordion music in Finland"Johanna Juhola is one of Finlands most artistically ambitious crafters of contemporary folk music.
