i have been singing my whole life as well as playing musical instruments from the time i was a little girl. i'm a classically trained singer and have my bachelors of arts in music and theater. i set out to be an opera singer and on my journey i met incredible people who were writing music and expressing themselves and suddenly my life took on a whole new meaning.
as for writing songs- well i had been doing it my whole life i just never had thought to write anything down until college and then i put it aside to pursue my opera career. two years ago my desire resurfaced and i recorded my first song in collaboration with a dear friend of mine.
my music comes from a classical background. some of the music has a style of gregorian chant or cantoring that i learned in church choir and also studied at university. the songs are also more like art songs rather than other singer/songwriter styles. most of the songs are through composed without repeating choruses and express emotions. some people have likened it more to a musical style because it fits more to what a character in a musical would sing about.
truly, music is my way of expressing myself. the instrument is there to colour the emotion like tone painting in classical music.
i believe my music is unique because i don't set out to write a song and put together the best chord progressions but rather let the music come to me and flow through me. the text is written from my heart with very little revision from the original moment it came from my body to the paper. my music is meant to be an emotional experience- to move people and to touch people through words and sounds.
