Johanna Mystery is a fresh, seductive act from New Zealand. Although a relative late-comer to the music scene, Johanna's classical training has seen her already playing with some of the most sought after musicians in the country. Her style ranges from acoustic folk to electric soul/hip-hop.

Biography

Since bursting onto the Wellington music scene in 2010, multi-instrumentalist Johanna Mystery has already performed with award winning singer-songwriter Jess Chambers (The Woolshed Sessions), and recorded with a string of established New Zealand musicians, including virtuoso guitarist Justin Firefly Clarke (The Woolshed Sessions), and Nigel Collins (sole accompanying musician for ‘Flight of The Conchords’).

As a solo act, Johanna Mystery’s music, with its expressive combination acoustic soul, roots, and folk music styles, draws in and holds any audience in captive silence. When performing with her band, The Johanna Mystery Trio, experienced drummer and multi-instrumentalist Ben Lemi Wood (Hikoikoi, Urban Tramper), and hotly demanded jazz bassist Will Sklenars, forge together a solid rhythm section, adding hip-hop and rock elements to Johanna Mystery’s catchy electrified hooks.

Described as being reminiscent of the organ-infused sounds of ‘The Doors’, mixed with the edgy and soulful vibes of Amy Winehouse, Tracey Chapman, and Joan Armitrading, the Johanna Mystery Trio is fast developing a reputation for their dynamic performances.

Johanna Mystery is now based in the U.K. The Johanna Mystery Trio is currently in the process of recording a debut album, gigging around Europe, and planning a summer tour of New Zealand in January 2012.
