Bio

John Black's professional music career began around the early 2000's with his first self-started band, afferent beginning to gain some notarial traction in their local music scene and beyond, sharing the stage with the likes of then massive acts like alexisonfire, Vendetta Red, and Switchfoot. With that group disbanding in the spring of 2005, Black went on to form the pop/rock/punk powerhouse Sarah's Redemption, which held a rotating group of musicians before releasing their debut album The Dreamer's Gene in 2008. The album consisted of a catchy mix of power-pop bangers that got their rabid and loyal fan base wildly grabbing for the mic at every show they played; however, after a long string of headlining dates, including a short stint on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour, it started to become quite apparent that crowds were responding most to the album's three ballads, all of which came to be much more comfortable and powerful to play.

After creative differences led to the band's demise in 2009, Black went on to form Makeshift Lullaby, a pop/rock outfit that had music in the realm of late 90's alternative mixed in with a bit of adult contemporary. Their debut album Shadows (2011) was a strong departure from his previous work, showcasing a variety of different influences ranging from City & Colour to Bruce Springsteen. The group would go on to dominate their local NYC scene and grow an exceptionally loyal fan base, performing every stage they could, sharing the likes with Marc Cohn, Augustana, ATOMIC TOM, and many more, finally capping off with a climactic closing performance at The Gramercy Theatre before band mates Andrew Iuso (bass), Gary Gordon Wallach (guitar), Ian Carrol (drums), and David Estioco (keys) would go on to pursue other projects and passions.

From there, the world opened up, and he would find himself gracing everything from busking in Central Park tunnels to playing massive theaters as a solo act. His first single as a true solo artist came with the heartbeat driven pop-radio track "Six Lovers Deep" in 2015, which was widely received as his most honest and cutting work to date.

This winter, Black will be stepping back into the studio to create his first full album as a solo artist, due out Spring 2018. Keep a look out for new music in the coming months.
