Biography

John Alexander performs a blend of blues, country and folk with rich vocals and outstanding fingerpicking guitar playing

Life in his native country Scotland as well as experiences of living in New Zealand and travelling through the USA form much of the inspiration behind his songs.

A busy performing schedule has seen John open slots for BBC Radio2 artist of the year Karine Polwart and several US based songwriters including Grammy nominee Darrell Scott as well as appearances in Celtic Connections.

When The Wind Blows

Written By: John Alexander

When the Wind Blows

I’ve come along way and I’ve had no money
Everything got up gone and left me
You can say what you say, it was never that easy
Lost everything I had before I had nothing to please me

High and low wind and rain
No luck there and back again
I’ve always got a friend who knows what to do
When I close my eyes lord I can see it’s you

You better listen now when the wind blows and you know its up to you
You better listen now when the wind she blows
You better listen now when the wind blows and you know I’m coming through
You better listen now when the wind she blows

Give me wings take them away and ill crash on down to rise someday
Like a big old tree, ill come through the storm
You can’t do me no harm lord you just make me strong

Ill go a long time you cant keep me down
Ill never lose faith ill come back around
No matter what you say no matter what you do
Ill keep moving right along lord until I break on through

24-7

Written By: John Alexander

24-7

Everywhere I find myself tonight
Everyone’s a stranger tonight
Nothing feels like home
Nothing feels its right

My coat is on to hide away my fears
My boots are slowly filling up with tears
If it goes on like this
Ill drown inside a year

24-7 I know I’m missing you
20 to eleven and ill make it back on through
24-7 I’m missing you right now
Twenty to eleven and I’ll make it back somehow

What everyone wants is all kept inside
But what I need I know I cannot hide
I just want you girl
And I want you by my side

24-7 I know I’m missing you
20 to eleven and ill make it back on through
24-7 I’m missing you right now
Twenty to eleven and I’ll make it back somehow

He’s closing down he’s pulling in the signs
He’s open all hours and he cant afford the time
So he’s going home right now
To share a bottle of wine

24-7 I know I’m missing you
20 to eleven and ill make it back on through
24-7 I’m missing you right now
Twenty to eleven and I’ll make it back somehow

I will Be

Written By: John Alexander

I’ve got rivets of gold I’ve got mountains of soul
Where the big old place used to be
Where time hardened people all brought to the river
To work for their family

and down by the docks where we’d work round the clock
to lay her down in the sea
Through the cold winters we’d take little pay
and that’s not what bothers me

I don’t know why you don’t find out why your working days are done
Its just the way this funny old world plays a joke on everyone
She’d be pride of the Clyde she’d be queen of the seas for a thousand men and me
And I will be

From a foreign land they took my right hand they’ve stolen my home today
A lifetime of work and they have shut us all down and that’s why you’ll here me say

That all I ever wanted was to build my dreams I know right where they’re found
And all that’s left is the skeleton crew and the echoes of an old mans sound

I don’t know why you don’t find out why your working days are done
Its just the way this funny old world plays a joke on everyone
She’d be pride of the Clyde she’d be queen of the seas for a thousand men and me
And I will be

A part of us your find from the Clyde to the Tyne a silver river roaming free
Those black and white days they have not gone away
They are the very essence of me
