years, to focus on a song and to relate words, music and identity. John

John Alexander gave us fine original songs, from a rapidly evolving talent. His set of what, for want of a better term, I'd call "Celtic blues" was delivered with real feeling and obvious ability.

With a throaty growl and finger picking guitar, John Alexander's '24-7' ep moves at an upbeat pace and centres on his dark, gravely tales. Lead track 'When The Wind Blows' is blues-like in its tone and delivery, and is the stand-out track of the four songs available. With the rest continuing in the same dark vein buth with the music becoming lighter, there is a fair bit of variation on the EP, without too much excitement. A solid and consistent release.

John Alexander performs a blend of blues, country and folk with rich vocals and outstanding fingerpicking guitar playing
His self-penned songs have strong guitar riffs and a bluesy feel, often drawing comparisons to the likes of John Martyn and Kelly Joe Phelps.
Life in his native country Scotland as well as experiences of living in New Zealand and travelling through the USA form much of the inspiration behind his songs.
A busy performing schedule has seen John open slots for BBC Radio2 artist of the year Karine Polwart and several US based songwriters including Grammy nominee Darrell Scott as well as appearances in Celtic Connections.
With album Waiting for Now already under his belt and EP 24-7 released in August 2006 John is working on a second album for a 2007 release.
