Song for Moses

Written By: John Amen

Song for Moses

I got home for Christmas
just before the levy fell
me and the boys had done some time
for scoping the liberty bell
I gripped the wheel tight
took exit 31
Moses changes the station
though the song wasn’t even half-way done
I turned to the right
he was loading his gun
turned to the right he was loading his gun

I walked down the corridor
as Moses started to preach
there were cops already
lined up on the beach
a bullet passed to the right
I heard the sirens below
Moses started to run
we hadn’t even located the dough
that’s all right
we would make it home
that’s all right we would make it home

just cause you’ve got your camera
don’t expect a demonstration
people are shutting down
all across the nation
someone with a full plate
is screaming I want more
I said I’ve got a bad feeling
as the cops kicked in the back door
what can I say
we knew the score
what can I say we knew the score

I got out and went south
looked up an old flame
too many players were trying
to get me back in the game
gotta admit it was tempting
go in and snag the art
gotta admit it was sad
when me and Moses finally had to part
that’s all right
it was a new start
that’s all right it was a new start

break

I woke up one morning
ten long years had passed
sitting in my lawn chair
listening to the radio blast
suddenly the cell rang
I picked it up said hello
Moses got shot a voice said
I just thought you’d probably wanna know
thanks I said
and hung up the phone
thanks I said and hung up the phone
