"A Local Legend..."

John Burlock is a "local legend" in the Boston music scene.

"Burlock Will Rock..."

Burlock Will Rock at Midnight Cafe

Oxfam Cafe will begin the semester's Midnight Caf concerts this Friday with Tufts Favorite John Burlock.

Burlock, a senior, has been playing shows on campus since his freshman year. His first solo show on campus, coincidentally, was at an Oxfam Midnight Caf 's open-mic night.

Four years later, singer/songwriter Burlock continues to be a strong presence on the Tufts music scene.

Watch for Burlock's experimentation with effect pedals, which create a fuller sound in the solo artist's songs. His use of delay and loops allow him to incorporate percussion and backup vocals, all while continuing to strum his guitar and sing lead.

Come early, the couches will fill up faster than you can say "Cardboard Shoes".

"Provocative guitar-play...."

If you are in need of some personal time to sort your thoughts out, John Burlock's "Comfort Me" will serve as a great musical backdrop. The twenty-year-old singer/songwriter provides smooth vocals with provocative guitar-play to bring peace to a troubled situation.

"Charming....Bubble Toes?"

The quieted audience was then lifted back up by solo guitarist John Burlock and his original song, "Cardboard Shoes." The performer had his own charm while his music had a catchiness reminiscent of Jack Johnson's "Bubble Toes."

Bio

john steele burlock

armed with an unwavering good nature, twenty-two year-old singer/songwriter john burlock offers an impassioned blend of contemporary rock, folk and pop music through consistently powerful live performances.

deeply confessional songs like "yours truly" (dear lady, i’ve been watching you breathe…i know it seems strange), "comfort me" (i’m not alright…i’ll never be fine), and "these days" (i got caught up in the hype of wondering why and how i became the kind of a guy that i sometimes despise) reveal both honest strength and a sense of incessant longing. lighter songs like "all the time" (you'll say that i say what's exactly on your mind and i'll pretend it's like i didn't try) and "after love" (if it’s love that you’re after, after love you might find it here) expose john’s determination, aspiration and desire.

john began playing the drums at age five when he won a drum lesson contest by playing an imperfect but impassioned version of wipe out on his bright red junior drum set. he won three free months of drum lessons but thanks to mom and dad, john continued with them for nine years. he then picked up the guitar in middle school and never turned back.

as a 22 year-old, john has recently graduated from tufts university in medford, ma where he played a lot of music and did a little school along the way. john explains that on stage he is happier and more relaxed than in any other situation life has thrown at him.

an experienced performer with over one hundred original songs, john does not claim to know anything for certain but promises to continue to follow his forever-bold instincts wherever they may take him in life and "what i find there, i hope it’s worth it" ("to the top").

oh yeah, his porn name (middle name + street name) is steele fountain…
