Unless She Asked Me To

Written By: John Comerford

Well I fell off of the wagon, but I didn’t get a scratch.
Gave up smoking cigarettes, ain’t slept a good night since
Slayed the dragons, all but one, but that one was the king.
Some folks need direction, and some need everything
But I've played that song before, so I’ll quit before the end.
I’d like to see my friends back there, but I won’t go back again.
Unless she asked me to.
Unless she asked me to.

16 months in L.A. and they wonder why you're strange?
But it don’t hurt to be polite and it's a fact some people change
I saw it in the paper, and I heard it on the news.
That style, it fits you perfectly, but me I’ll take the Blues
Sometimes all it takes is just a kindly word placed right at the source.
I always try persuasion, and I don’t resort to force.
Unless she asked me to.
Unless she asked me to.

I hate those Sunday mornings, but I like the night before.
It's a wonder that I ever even make it out the door
All I remember was the screaming, the sky a morphine gray.
Some Limey playing folk songs in the back of some café.
So if you hear me knocking won’t you open just a crack?
I would not lie right to your face and knife you in the back.
Unless she asked me to.
Wouldn’t you? If she asked you to?
Unless she asked me to.

Sleep Close To Somebody You Love

Written By: John Comerford

I hope you’re feeling better, things are going good
I hope that each day’s treating you just as fine as each day should
Hope you’re eating healthy, and you’re drinking tasty wine
But most and best of all I hope you sleep close to somebody you love
Sleep close to somebody that you love tonight

I hope you live in the mountains and you got a sunny southern view
And your time’s enough to do the things that you feel you ought to do
The road you’re on is starlit, and the folks there treat you kind
But most and best of all I hope you sleep close to somebody you love
Sleep close to somebody that you love tonight

I hope you like your neighbor, and you often say hello
And I hope that when your work is done you got something to show
I hope your credit rating’s high and your cholesterol level is low
But most and best of all I hope you sleep close to somebody you love
Sleep close to somebody that you love tonight

I hope you got a little stashed somewhere, in case there comes a rainy day
And when you're traveling far from home you always find your way
I hope your children grow up strong, and fill your heart with pride
But most and best of all I hope you sleep close to somebody you love
Sleep close to somebody that you love tonight
Somebody you love

The Secret

Written By: John Comerford

She holds you tight and you know she ain't fooling
She'll take you anywhere that you want to go
She'll give you what you ask for, and over again
She'll tell you anything that you want to know
She got the diamonds in her lipstick Full moon in her eyes
She got the stars inside her pocketbook
She never feels afraid and she never, ever lies
Just say her name, turn around, she'll be there
Like a mirage that comes out of the air
She won't be in no hurry, got nothing but time
So if you've got the time to spare
She can tell you the Secret
You know she's the Secret

I seen the sun come up behind the crumbling hotel
The morning sky was naked red
Shaking like a baby from the thrill of it all
Ground's too cool to make a comfortable bed
His watch chain, it was silver, just as you'd expect
The watch itself was made of gold, just tell it like it is, she likes it very direct
And she don't need your gratitude
She'll throw your jewels right down on the floor
You don't have to feel embarrassed or shy
She can think for herself, she ain't nobody's whore

You can have it if you want it for the asking
There's no price or hidden charges to pay
You just reach out your hand, it'll fall in your lap
And you can have it night or day
So take my advice, get down on your knees, kiss the ground that touches her feet
Give no second thought at all to what you've been taught
They're so full of lies, treachery and deceit
And you can treat her like a nun or an heiress
She knows just how to do what she's told
Give her kisses out on the terrace
And don't hesitate, 'cause fortune favors the bold
There's a light up on a mountain, down in old Mexico
And if you look you'll find her there
She waits for you, her arms open wide, her intention is to share
She wants to tell you the secret
You know she's the secret
