"Somewhat enthused"

'Singer/Songwriter John Devlin came from his native Belfast to London in Early 2000 and quickly began putting together his new band. Previously he had been touring around Ireland throughout the nineties with his Irish group ‘North Parade’ before launching his solo career in 1998. His new band consists of the classic line up of drums, bass, keyboards, rhythm and lead guitar. The band also features three part harmonies on many of the tracks.'
So states the bands own bio. What it doesn't do is prepare the listener for the delights in store. Suffice to say that John Devlin is in imminent danger of stealing the 'Best Unsigned Band On The Planet' award. They really are the whole quality package...the line up, the songs, the look and the style...it's complete and ready to market.
The band are best represented by 'Six Down And Four To Go' although picking a favourite from their EP 'Red Indians' is no mean feat...this is one superb EP.

Six Down And Four To Go

Straight off you may wonder if your listening to the Blockheads. But dare I say that this is even better...proof that great British song writing is alive and well. Following great traditions that have long since passed, remember 'Something In The Air' and 'Itchycoo Park'. If you do, you'll love this...if you don't, you'll probably love this even more 'cause you'll be in the envious position of never having heard anything like it. The economic use of the instruments throughout most of Six Down gives them enormous power when driven hard. There's no overly distorted guitar or crash cymbal abuse going on, just raw energy when required. The chorus is much more than memorable and is hugely enhanced by vocal harmony but just as you think it couldn't have more impact the middle eight blows you away. Fantastic use of melody throughout adds even more and I'm convinced you couldn't squeeze any more from a band than John Devlin deliver with apparent ease.

"Listeners like it too"

This song [You're Not The Only One] is one that I'd rip my volume knob off trying to go above 10 (eleven!) while driving with the top down! It's got a great overall feel to it. To me, it's a nice mesh of something like Steve Earle and Wilco. - Halesrox, Garageband.com

Bio

Singer/Songwriter John Devlin came from his native Belfast to London in Early 2000 and began putting together his new band. Previously he had been touring around Ireland throughout the nineties with his Irish group ‘North Parade’ before launching his solo career in 1998.

His music can broadly be described as pop/rock with elements of folk and country in his sound. You can hear everything from Lennon, Nilsson, Bowie and Weller to The White Stripes and The Strokes in there. What makes Devlin’s music his own is the blending of genres, direct and poignant lyrics and John’s distinctive and earthy vocals.

His band have already been making waves in the London gig circuit and in September 2003 played to thousands in Trafalgar Square as part of a Princes Trust event. You can catch his band on any given month at the Water Rats, Hope and Anchor, 12 Bar Club and The Troubadour.

His new band consists of the classic line up of drums, bass, keyboards, rhythm and lead guitar. The band also features three part harmonies on many of the tracks.

The EPK you see on screen contains a sample of the range of John’s song writing and the strength of musicianship of the band. Produced by John and the guys, it is an attempt to accurately reproduce what the band do on stage.

A number of labels have already expressed interest in John Devlin’s music including Mercury and EMI Ireland. Among John’s cheerleaders are Noel Gallagher and Sharon Corr! Hope you enjoy the songs.
