Bio
John has 20+ years in the business, classically trained as a youngster and steeped in the hard rock tradition of Bad Company, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Dio, Humble Pie, and Tom Petty, with a dose of Southern influence from the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Raised in the country outside a small town in Oregon John's childhood influences were Bluegrass and Celtic music. He has lately incorporated these influences into his writing to achieve a unique blend with a rock hard edge that hearkens back to early Led Zeppelin acoustic/rock and Steve Earle's "Copperhead Road."
A classically schooled singer, he does most all the vocals himself, overlaying rich textures of harmony that offset the rough-hewn edge of his classic rock guitar stylings.
John's guitar specialty is slide, both electric and acoustic.
John has organized and fronted countless bands: Salty Dog, Rocky Road The Checker Brothers, The Choirboys, Siren, Hot, Blue & Righteous, and Holy Smoke, to name a few. He has also been a sought-after session man as well as a 6-string slinger and singer for hire through much of his solo career. In 2005 he was thrilled to be chosen as the guitarist and singer for country band Memphis Exchange for their "Prayer for a Soldier Tour," in which he played for our valiant troops of The United States Marine Corps in Japan. Venues included concerts, clubs, and live radio airplay.
John is equally at home performing as an acoustic soloist, with a full blown band, or playing to tracks, which he produces himself. While most of the time in his set list he plays his own original music, he has a vast repertoire of classic cover material ranging from the '60's thru the mid-90's. John puts his own stamp and style on the cover material to keep it fresh.
John's music is unique in style, yet carries very familiar overtones to the listener, coupled with a positive vibe, message, and feel.
