John Thomas Fowler is a blast of southern storytelling and old-time music energy. His performaces are geared for all audiences. He specializes in traditional tales, run-on-silly introductions, and mountain ballads and songs. He is a dynamic tradional storyteller!!!!


My work is a celebration of my heritage, my family ties to the region, and the love of traditional stories and music. My focus is documentation and preservation, and sharing for future generations.
John has won a number of old-time music contest over the years. He placed first at the Mountain Dance Folk Festival in the old-time banjo contest; won two blue ribbons in the old-time harmonica competition at Fiddler's grove Bluegrass Old-Time Music Festival; Placed First in the old-time banjo category at the Pickens County Heritage Festival; He has won a number of open competitions with washboard, hamonica, spoons and jaws harp.

Renowned storyteller Jackie Torrence once said of John's performace, "His story characters seem to come alive with his erergy and folksy way. His is wonderful to listen too."

John is a researcher and collector, writer and host an old-time radio show on NC public radio station WNCW 88.7 FM
