Bio
In a world that seems to grow increasingly toxic around us, The John Howland Trio are musical organic farmers. "Sunburn" is an album of catchy songs harvested up from the roots of real experiences and influences. It’s serious and playful. It’s big slide riffs and intimate acoustic sing-alongs. It’s simple and sophisticated. It just feels genuine. If light-weight pop fluff is what you’re after, this is not your band!
John Howland Trio is influenced as much by the mellow songwriting and delivery of Jack Johnson as it is by Derek Trucks' world music slide, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Charlie Hunter's jazzy funk, Wilco, Robert Randolph, or The Meters.
Played on weissenborn and slide, in addition to standard guitar, the music ranges from folky simple to more sophisticated arrangements but it's always melodic, and it's all tied together with a directly intimate and descriptive lyrical style.
The band originally formed in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music. They worked from a baby college band beggin' for a gig, to headling sold out shows at the House of Blues and accompanying bands such as Robert Randolph and the Family Band, or Particle at larger clubs and theaters around New England and NYC.
Now based out of Berkeley, California, the band has just released Sunburn, is playing as much as possible in support of it, and generally celebrating developing grass roots as independent musicians!
