Bio
The cure for anything is saltwater – sweat, tears or the sea.
The goers’ music comes directly off the decks of sailing ships. A sailor, and captain of a traditional, wooden square rigger, John Kraus bases his sound on the traditional backbone of maritime music. Learning such songs is simply a practice learned in his trade, even today. Fusing a tuba and violin with wild percussion and a multitude of strummed, plucked or slapped instruments, The Goers blend old, borrowed and some completely new melodies to a fine pure’ of Celtic-American stew that will as often illustrate the plight of the sailor as well as his celebrations. The results are songs that are unique, reminiscent of a time long past, but modern and urgent, compelling you to step aboard a ship and go to sea. These are not your grandfather’s shanties.
