Who's Going to Want a Man Like me?

Written By: John Myer

I drink to ease the pain,
Of all that’s lost and so little gained.
Damaged goods from the word go,
So much invested, so little to show.
A good looking young man they smile and say,
But ugly wounds are tucked away.

Chorus:

Oh, how I long to be set free,
From all the hurt you’ve given me.
Will they ever learn?
Will they ever see?
These wounds, how they burn,
Who’s going to want a man like me?

Learning too young, learning too soon,
The thin line between love and hate.
In a moment life goes boom,
Leading to a horrible fate.
Lining us up against the wall,
To shoot us down, to make us fall.

Chorus:

Dad had lost his mind,
His sanity he couldn’t find.
I’ll always remember how my mother’s,
Quick thinking saved me and my brothers.
Your heroes may come from someone’s fantasy,
But mine’s mom, who was willing to die for me.

Sixteen With the World on a String

Written By: John Myer

Told my momma I’d be gone a few days,
She said, “We’re leavin’ this city craze.
Going back to where we belong.”
“But, Momma it won’t take me long.”

Chorus:

The first job that I ever had,
Workin’ for the man wasn’t so bad.
Sixteen with the world on a string,
I truly thought that I knew everything.

Didn’t listen to what she said,
All of sixteen and thick in the head.
When I got back to the big city scene,
She left a few clothes where they’d been.

Chorus:

Hanging up the phone,
I knew what it meant to be alone.
There I stood against the night,
With no way home, no hope in sight.
My whole world had just been shattered,
Lost in a moment, everything that mattered.

Chorus:

Two Suitcases and a Baby

Written By: John Myer

All we owned, all we had, fit in those two cases,
As we boarded the train, waving goodbye to tear stained faces.
When we reached our destination,
We walked about with fascination.
Suitcases in hand, and a baby on my hip,
Setting out on a rip of a trip.

Chorus:

With a wish and a prayer above,
We thought we could live on love.
Momma said, “Don’t let him take my baby!”
I said, “Momma, he’s the one that drives me crazy.”
Off we went with two suitcases and a baby.

A place for the night, taking most of our money,
Some bologna for us, and milk for our honey.
Keeping them on the sill at night,
With the pigeons we had to fight.
Following this boy, I must be crazy,
With just two suitcases and a baby.

Chorus:

We’ve come a long way, the man and his lady,
So far from the day with two suitcases and a baby.
Time would pass, no bed of roses,
But one door opens, as another door closes.
We thought we could live on love,
Looking back, I guess we did… with help from the Lord above.

Kentucky’s Home, But It’s Not Mine Anymore

Written By: John Myer

Not so long ago, but so far away,
Kentucky was home one sunny day.
I was twelve, or maybe thirteen,
Didn’t know who I was, or where I’d been.
There in the heartland I would know,
In my heart, in my soul I would grow.

Chorus:

Kentucky’s home, but it’s not mine anymore,
They say you can’t go back to the way it was before.
So much of who I am goes back to those days,
Learning of love and pain, to work and play.
Wherever I go, wherever I am,
Kentucky’s home, but it’s not mine anymore.

A high school drop out going nowhere fast,
Needing to make a change that would last.
Joined the Navy as my father before me,
To see the world and be set free.
The miles I’ve traveled, the places I’ve been,
Go unnumbered and my home unseen.

Chorus:

A wife and children to care for now,
To live and love sometimes I wonder how.
But those hollows and that bottom soil,
I carry with me through the joy and toil.
My folks who loved me and gave me life,
Taught me what I need to make it through the strife.

Chorus:
