A lot of new Chicago music lined up this week but I’m most impressed by every single track on the new EP from singer-songwriter Johnny Edward called This Is Home. Vocally, he brings to mind Steve Dawson of Dolly Varden and Johnny’s writing definitely falls in to that Americana bag. But there’s a richness to the songs and performances that indicate this man has got the goods deep in his soul. Lots of chordal variations without being too fancy, these songs are constructed with an absence of cliche and predictability. You definitely want to hear this. - CBS-WXRT

Throughout This Is Home, we find Edward capturing love’s lightning in a bottle, all to the style he was born to write in. It’s more than a collection of songs. Edward has managed to blend the feel-good folk of The Lumineers, the raw energy of Mumford & Sons, and the instant catchiness of Taylor Swift into an original sound that demands to be heard. With the two-year project finally out and into the world, Edward’s goal is simple—relate to the listener’s own life with universal themes and undeniable songs.
