Johnny Tsunami and the Shoulder Hoppers recipe is simple; play rock n’ roll clean, tight and right. Vocalist and lead-rhythm guitar player Michael Barrett influence of The Dead, will bring you back to forgotten days of dance/trance, where structural understanding of the tunes leads to jams that conclude back to structure. Petty, The Stones, Sublime, among others allow Johnny Tsunami and the Shoulder Hoppers to play a mix of alternative rock renditions, classic rock along with originals that have hints of the countryside intertwined. Diversity of the music genres is what makes Johnny Tsunami and the Shoulder Hoppers approach, fresh. Bassist Michael C. Royster, rock steady veteran drummer Rod Wilson, and Sax-man Chris Kroeze, play rock and reggae that also include old school classics such as Jimmy Cliff, Dylan, Jimi, Marley and more. The Shoulder Hoppers vibe also include additional brass players, keys and string players that ‘Hop’ into the set line-up depending on day and location. Johnny Tsunami aims for a blend of “B-SIDE” rock, reggae, and hippy-garage renditions, inspire the band members and long-time surfers of the central coast to jam down around town with the purpose of spreading smiles, positivity and putting dancers in motion.
