All Too Clear

ALL TOO CLEAR Written by: JOHNNY C ACUFF

Well there he is again
Isn’t this 4 nights in a row?
I guess he really likes it here
Or maybe there’s nowhere else to go
We go back a ways
For about as long as I recall
I knew him when things were better
A long time before the fall
Now he’s hard to recognize
And even harder to understand
In the midst of a smoky barroom
Sits the shadow of a man
I’m not gonna judge him
Though the truth is all too clear
If he’s looking for salvation
There’s no way he’ll find it here

I try not to stare
As he orders another round
But our eyes meet each other
As he turns another down
No one dares to speak to him
It’s as if he isn’t there
He’s a ghost among the strangers
His gravesite is his chair
So I’ll let him rest in peace
And pretend not to see him cry
Seems everyone’s given up on him
To tell the truth- so have I
There’s only one thing I can give him
And I can see it all to clear
So I raise my glass in honor
Then order him another beer

As he lays his money down
I see the ring still on his hand
Til death we do part
Has been engraved on the band
In his wallet there’s a picture
Of a young man with his bride
Yeah that’s him and Rosie
A couple of months before she died
She was too sick to be saved
Though the doctors tried to slow it
Rosie gave up on living
He has too, just doesn’t know it
I look over my shoulder
To see him walking out the door
I know we’ll be back tomorrow
Just like all the nights before
I can’t help but wonder
If I’ll see things a little clearer
If I sit down by a window…
…Instead of sitting by the mirror

ALL TOO CLEAR Written by: Johnny C Acuff

Well there he sits again - This makes 4 nights in a row
I guess this is the place to be - When you’ve got nowhere else to go
We go back a ways - For as long as I can recall
I knew him when things were better - A long time before the fall
Now it’s hard to even look at him - Without the urge to shed a tear
Most are blind to his heartache - But I can see it all too clear

I can see it all to clear
Through the whiskey, smoke, and beer
He’s just looking for salvation
Though I doubt he’ll find it here
Behind those empty bottles
Hides the hurt- the doubt- the fear
But from the outside looking in
I can see it all to clear

No one even speaks to him - It’s as if he isn’t there
He’s a ghost among the strangers - His gravesite is his chair
I’ll let him rest in peace - Pretend not to see him cry
Seems everyone’s given up on him - And to tell the truth, so have I
He’s dying more than living - The end’s more now than near
I’m not blind to the truth at hand - I can see it all too clear

I can see it all to clear
Through the whiskey, smoke, and beer
He’s just looking for salvation
Though I doubt he’ll find it here
Behind those empty bottles
Hides the hurt- the doubt- the fear
But from the outside looking in
I can see it all to clear

As he lays his money down
I see the ring still on his hand
Though she’s been gone for years
He’s never taken off the band
I guess we’ll be back tomorrow
And maybe I’ll see things a little clearer
If I sit down by a window…..
…..Instead of sitting by the mirror
