Johnny Ma is a Seattle based rock band made up of two brothers, TJ Johnson (singer/songwriter) and Tyler Johnson (drums), and Japanese transplant, Masa Kobayashi (bass). Johnny Ma’s chemistry produces catchy songs for any listener with enough twists and turns in melody, rhythm and form for the skeptic music connoisseur. Influences range from David Bowie to Elbow and Miles Davis to Fugazi.
Johnny Ma’s debut E.P. will be released in 2012 and is produced and recorded by Matt Bayles (Minus the Bear, Mastodon, Isis, Cursive, Pearl Jam, etc.) and recorded at the Red Room in Seattle.
At one time together and separately, they have collaborated and/or played shows with the following: The Presidents of the United States of America, Iggy Pop, Gogol Bordello, Wailers, Wax Wing, Rock Ridge Music, Geoff Ott(London Bridge Studios), Jack Endino, Matt Bayles (Minus The Bear, Isis, Mastadon), Microsoft’s Xbox and many more.
