BIO - Jonathan D. Smith (born May 17, 1984), better known by his stage name Johnny Roscoe a.k.a. The Gingerbread Man is an American rapper & producer. Recently relocating to California’s Bay Area from Brooklyn, NY, Johnny Roscoe is one of the best up & coming gangsta rappers in the U.S. He is currently promoting his new hit single “Like This” throughout the west coast.
Born in Fairfield, California, Smith started drug dealing at the age of twelve in the mid-90’s after the tragic death of his father, Fred Smith. After attempting to leave drug dealing to pursue a rap career, he was jumped and assaulted to the brink of death. After a 3 month recovery (that include a broken jaw, a severe concussion, and several broken ribs) Smith released his first single “Jus wanna Ride” in 2006 under contract with Sony & an indie label, BlazeOut Entertainment, LLC. After a bitter break up with his label and former crew, SmokeHouse, Smith decided it was time for a change of scenery, and made his way back to his former hometown, Fairfield, CA.
Now becoming one of the fastest up & coming west coast rappers, Johnny Roscoe is taking the hip-hop industry by storm. Being compared to established artist 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, & Ice Cube, the kid with a golden voice and some of the meanest lyricism since early 90’s rap is no pushover. Already completing a 2009 Midwest tour with rapper, Kid Polo, Johnny Roscoe is making headlines again in northern California opening up for well-known artist, Mista F.A.B. & Husalah (of Mobb Figgaz), and receiving a ton of radio play from college radio stations and soon Wild 94.9 in San Jose.
Johnny Roscoe is slated to release his highly anticipated street album “The Gingerbread House” Vol.1 in late June 2010.
