johnpaulgeorgeringo - a solo show

BandComedySinger/Songwriter

I do a one man show in which I portray each of The Beatles; I come out dressed as an amalgam of "the fab four", the whole show is improvised with the audience--they can ask any question of any Beatle, and I answer as that, or each Beatle, quickly and fluidly morphing between the characterizations.

Biography

A native New Yorker, Dave Jay is a prolific performing songwriter/entertainer who began writing songs at age 9, imagining himself to be the 5th Monkee…that is, until he heard The Beatles! Fresh off a critically acclaimed run in the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival, (selected "Outstanding Solo Show"), a successful 3 show run at the world famous Cavern Club in Liverpool, England during “Beatles Week” and continued success as part of The FringeNYC Encore Series, johnpaulgeorgeringo has also wowed audiences at the renowned off-Broadway theater, The SOHO Playhouse, as well as Times Square’s HA! Comedy Club, and the legendary B.B. King Blues Bar, plus special guest in The Frigid Theater Festival, all in New York City. Most recently, Dave Jay just returned from performing the popular show in Louisville, Kentucky as part of the world’s largest Beatles-inspired festival, “Abbey Road On The River”

Whether charming national television audiences on ABC-TV’s “The View” as their Original Song Contest Winner, or writing music licensed by MTV for “The Osbournes,” Dave Jay injects his original brand of upbeat, melodic, lyric-driven, jazz-tinged pop/rock (a fresh genre he created, known as J’BLAMMO POP™) into every performance. Dave Jay was also honored locally as a Finalist in The Connecticut Comedy Festival and as a Special Guest Performer in Shure Microphone’s Best Singer/Songwriter in New York Competition.

Dave Jay performs his J’BLAMMO POP™ music, which has been compared to Elvis Costello meeting the Beatles in a tug of war with the Beach Boys, at clubs, parties, mental facilities, hospitals, and bars throughout the tri-state area. In the past several years Dave Jay has logged hundreds of performances along the eastern seaboard, from New England to Key West, FL, including electric, unplugged, solo and group concerts. Dave Jay’s latest CD is “Songs for Today’s Attention Span,” a collection of thoughtful, catchy J’BLAMMO POP tunes co-produced with Lenny Monachello.

In addition to writing and producing original educational songs for Ignite!Learning.com, whose animated shorts are used in the classroom setting, Dave Jay has also released a debut CD of children’s music, "Balloon To The Moon,” which is on sale (and has sold out twice) at Books of Wonder, New York City’s largest independent children’s book store. Dave Jay has also performed for kids of all ages and donates his time and music to organizations such as The Starlight Foundation, Hospital Audiences, Inc., Music That Heals, United Cerebral Palsy, Brooklyn Services for Autistic Citizens, and Musicians On Call.

Dave Jay also offers a unique personalized songwriting service, in which he writes, performs and produces memorable, custom-made songs as gifts or party favors.

Mars

Mars
©2008 Dave Jay Gerstein

Mars is a far off star from here but I can get there
Mars is a far off star from here but I can go
Mars is a far off star
Mars is a far off star
Mars is a far off star from here but I can get there
Anywhere I can see all possibilities

Mars is a far off star from here but we can get there
Mars is a far off star from here but we can go
(We can go)
Mars is a far off star, baby
Doesn’t matter who you are, baby
Mars is a far off star from here but we can get there
Anything can be if we give it energy

Meteoric roadblock
Moon showers of space rock
Adjust your gravity
And fly along with me
Into outer space

Mars is a far off star from here but we can get there
(Come on with me)
Mars is a far off star from here but we can go
(We can go)
Mars is a far off star
Doesn’t matter who you are
Mars is a far off star from here but we can get there

Take My Hand

Written By: Dave Jay Gerstein

Take My Hand

You and me, aren’t we
Each lovebound by an intimacy
In memories we lived through together

But I wouldn’t let forever go by without you
No I’ll never let never ever say never ever again

On my own, all alone
On a throne for the lonely and sad
In the Kingdom of Unhappy
Where I shouldn’t stay

‘Cuz I wouldn’t want anyway away from you
And I wouldn’t want to go it alone again
Glad to say that now I don’t have to

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah…

Listen up; only say this once
There’s no fun in life without you, babe
Take my hand…

One Community

Written By: Dave Jay Gerstein

One Community

Why can’t we be one community
Why we always breaking in three
Why can’t we be one community
I am talkin’ ‘bout you and me

Put down your dukes and pick up the pieces of your life
Put down the nukes and the gun, rope, tongue, missile, bullet, knife

Why can’t we be one community
Why we always breaking in three
Why can’t we be one community
I am talkin’ ‘bout you and me

Tell me the truth; there’s harm in beatings ‘round the bush
Don’t turn me to sleuth, ‘cuz I detect bullshit when shove comes to push

So why can’t we be one community
Why we always breaking in three
Why can’t we be one community
I am talkin’ ‘bout you and me

‘Cuz anyone is someone when there’s someone there to need you
When you’re the one who freed you all the while

Why can’t we be one community
Why can’t we be one community
Why can’t we be one community…One community

Evening

Written By: Dave Jay Gerstein

Evening

Evening I need ya
And I’m not leavin’ ‘til I get to see ya
Even if my daydream has to die
And that is why
You’ll always be my lullabye
And that is why
You’ll always be my other half of the sky

Evening so be ya
The sunlight can’t reveal the way I’m feelin’
So lonely; I only sit and wonder
Whether and why
You’ll always be my lullabye
Whether and why
You’ll always be my other half of the sky

Evening I need ya
And I’m not leavin’ ‘til I get to see ya
Even if my daydream has to die
And that is why
You’ll always be my lullabye
And that is why
You’ll always be my other half of the sky
