John Riley and the Lighthorsemen came together around fall of 2005. They began playing immediately in some of the smaller venues. They have played all across Oklahoma, from Broken Bow, to Tahlequah, to Davis.

The band has played with several acts including Level Route, Turnpike Troubadours, Potential Getaway Drivers, Post Oak Savannah & Southern Crudder.

John Riley & The Lighthorsemen plan on working on their debut album in 2007. The band plays a mix of old & new music as well as their own original material.

When asked why he plays and writes music, John replied, "Music has always been a big part of my life. My family sang in Church, in the car, in the house, we sang more than we talked. My dad was an awesome singer and I got much of my musical influence from him. I write music that is true to me & the people I grew up with."

The band plays music about hard living & faith, strenght through adversity. Their music has elements of country writing mixed with classic rock styles of guitar, the best way they have heard it described from some of their fans, is "Country On Cocaine."

Influences include Johnny Cash, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Stoney Larue, Steve Earl, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Guns n Roses, Ted Nuggent, Randy Rogers, ACDC, Waylon Jennings, Chris Knight, Gary Stewart ,Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, The Squidbillies.
