Biography

John Watts is from a family of singers. He progressed through school and college bands inspired equally by the late 60s Trojan catalogue and great maverick artists, from Alex Harvey to Lou Reed, Captain Beefheart to Tom Waits and the 'Hunky Dory' David Bowie. Watts moved to the point where punk, art-wave and reggae crossed over. He landed a record deal as Fischer-Z with United Artists in 1978 alongside the Buzzcocks and the Stranglers.

Fischer-Z appeared in the art school new wave to be categorised as the UK's answer to Talking Heads, Television and the New York writer/musician crossover artists. They achieved a strong cult status in the UK, then translated their eclectic mix of reggae and high energy cerebral pop songs into more than two million album sales worldwide. They became well known throughout continental Europe and achieved chart success as far abroad as Australia.

Watts has amassed a considerable body of creative work since. His quality song-writing has evolved steadily against a variety of musical colours. It has encompassed written word, poetry and humour as easily as rap-scape, rare groove and indie guitar influences, all with a characteristic singing and written 'voice'. A recent album, 'Ether Music & Film', was a combination of music album and accompanying road movie.

The double worldwide release of the 'Real Life Is Good Enough’ and related ‘It Has To Be’ albums represents a fresh new era for John; a return to more organic music-making and humorous writing. He is touring extensively solo and in a two-piece format with drummer and multi-instrumentalist Sam Walker.

Adrian's Song - Brothers

Written By: John Watts

Am (Cap 7!)C~G F
My brothers are with me
Wherever I go
My brothers will/can give me
What only blood can do …
From the rooftops of Zurich
To Manhatten in the rain
The brothers are calling
Bring them back again
GAm FCGAm F F
(Love…can…break…you…Love…can…hold)
Brothers wont you join me
On top of the world
Brothers wont you join me
On top of the world

My father went before me
My brothers as well
And our sons will come after
But only time will tell…
GAm FCGAm F F
(I… know …they…love me…I.. know…there’s a love)
Brothers wont you join me
On top of the world
INSTRUMENTAL!!!!!!
My brothers are with me
GAm FCGAm F F
(Love…can…break…you…Love…can…hold)
Brothers Come and join me On top of the world…….

Susanne's Song - Dance On

Written By: John Watts

110 bpm G C C D (Slow melody verse)
Why should you be so meek and mild
Why should you change when you’ve had a child
Dance on!
Why should you leave your past behind
You don’t have to tow the party line
Dance on! D G
(You’re the) universal woman
Transcending space and time
On a constant evolution
There’s no rigid paradigm C D

So sister Suze… (just DANCE ON!)
So sister Suze… (just DANCE ON!)

Why should you put away that dress
When you take your children to the creche
Dance on!
Why should you stay awake all night
Unless the Oslo summer is burning bright
Dance on!
(You’re the) universal woman
Transcending space and time
On a constant evolution
There’s no rigid paradigm

So sister Suze… (just DANCE ON!)
So sister Suze… (just DANCE ON!)

DANCE ON DANCE ON DANCE ON DANCE ON build..

Why should you not see all your friends
And be out there til the party ends
Dance on!
It’s a stage of life not a crystal maze
Time to party in the family way
Dance on!

So sister Suze… (just DANCE ON!)
So sister Suze… (just DANCE ON!)
