"John Wean "New York Doesnt Love You""

Scottish 4-piece John Wean’s new single is based on a modern-day true story:

‘Boy sees girl from afar, boy stalks girl on Facebook, realizes she’s got a boyfriend already but, undaunted, moves his stalking over to another platform and is confronted by the Twitter name that inspired the single ‘New York Doesn’t Love You”’. Taking this as the signal to stop, boy logs off rapidly and writes a slamming guitar-pop track instead! The girl still doesn’t know that one of John Wean has a crush on her. Still, what are the chances of her finding out?

‘New York Doesn’t Love You’ is released on 16 April 2012 on The Dinky Record Company and was mixed by Grammy® winner Tom Lord-Alge.

The Scottish band travelled to Manhattan to shoot the video for the single and are currently putting the finishing touches to the forthcoming debut album (with producer Ewan Davies – the man behind debuts from Arctic Monkeys, Darkness and Editors).

The album is being mixed by Mark Lewis, who has worked with the likes of Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Adele, and will be mastered by John Davies (U2, Paul Weller, Led Zeppelin and Lady Gaga to name but a few).

Hailed as “the best thing to come out of Uddingston since the Tunnock’s Tea Cake” and as one of the “Tips For 2012” in the Scottish Sun, John Wean swagger into 2012 with all guns blazing and recently took part in Live Nation’s Live Connection initiative.

No strangers to the live circuit – with shows on both sides of the border in the last few weeks – or indeed the airwaves, John Wean are on a mission. The line up of Conor Cartwright [vocals / guitar], Stuart Anderson [guitar], Jude Smith [vocals / bass] and Simon Coakley [drums] are here to stay. Unless the girl’s boyfriend catches up with them.

Bio

JOHN WEAN.

John Wean (pronounced John Wayne) are four Scottish lads who write songs about love, life and their biggest interest - girls.

Radio 1's support looks to continue with the release of their new single ‘New York Doesn’t Love You’ is released on 30th April 2012.

on The Dinky Record Company mixed by Grammy® winner Tom Lord-Alge.

They have been described by Gary Crowley, BBC London, as "four gun-slingers from Glasgow" and "the best thing to come out of Uddingston since the Tunnock's tea cake".

John Wean have also been heralded as "the sound of the skins/inbetweeners generation" by Jim Gellatly, Clyde 1 because they write songs about their experiences and convey what happens in every city and town in Britain. Whether it be the lighter moments of love and laughter or the darker experiences involving drink, drugs and underage pregnancy, they write about the lives of the people they sing to. And that’s why people relate to them.

The band got noticed at an early stage by the booker at King Tut's. He realised quickly that whenever John Wean showed up, they always brought a large and lively crowd.

In December he asked them to support Tom Hingley and they brought in a crowd of 150 people. Knowing that the band could draw a large support, they where invited back in April where they played with the brilliant Young Rebel Set. This time they brought a crowd of more than 250 to help sell out the 300 capacity venue.

When it came to the launch of their first single, they decided that they would be better off hiring the Classic Grand and promoting it themselves. In September they packed out that venue and played to 500 of their own fans. and this feb Sold out the Oran Mor venue in Glasgow with 512 fans

Last winter the band are playing a handful of gigs around Britain in their first headline shows outside of Glasgow.
In the four months since their website went live it has received more than 32,000 hits and not only from the UK, as the band have fans all over Europe and from as far away as the Americas and Asia.
John Wean are not a niche band, we are inherently mainstream creating music with bass driven hooks, huge guitar riffs and honest lyrics that give us mainstream appeal whilst also maintaining our indie credibility. Refreshingly, there is no record company hype – people are recognising that John Wean are simply a good band.

The Band are putting the finishing touches to the forthcoming debut album which is being produced by Ewan Davies [producer of the debuts from Arctic Monkeys, Darkness and Editors].

The album is being mixed by Mark Lewis, the mix engineer for the legendary Trevor Horn, who has worked with the likes of Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Adele.

The album and all singles are mastered by John Davies [U2, Paul Weller, Led Zeppelin and Lady Gaga to name but a few].
