"In Joyful Harmony"

SPECIAL TO THE R&L
Members of the gospel musical group Joint Heir are (from left) Freddie Morrison, Brandon Carr, Mack Wilson, Derone McNeill , Rickey Long, David
Ramsey and Bryant Gabriel.
Gospel group enjoys spreading their faith through song
Armed with a style of their own and a passion
for praise, the seven members of the
contemporary gospel band Joint Heir
believe it is their privilege and right to share their
music with the world.
Statesville native Freddie Morrison said that
their name reflects the fact that they are joint heirs
with Christ. Their most recent project, titled “An
Intimate Encounter,” testifies to
that experience.
“The gift of praise is more
powerful than anything, and we
feel blessed to have taken on our
inheritance as a responsibility,”
Morrison said. “We are blessed to
have a brotherhood dedicated to
receiving and sharing God’s word
and using the talents he gave us to
praise him is a added reward.”
Morrison, who performed professionally
for many years as a
bass guitarist with the R&B group
Janice and has been the director
for Mitchell Community College’s choir for 18
years, said Joint Heir delivers urban contemporary
gospel sound that is both inspirational and
electrifying.
Since 1984, group members said they have been
overwhelmed by the response of their audiences
while opening for such gospel greats as Yolanda
Adams during her tour in Rome and in Naples as
part of a mission team.
Brandon Carr, drummer and co-producer of the
group, said one of the greatest honors they have
received was being named the “Contemporary
Gospel Group of the Year” by the North Carolina
Gospel Announcers Guild in 2003.
Carr comes from a musically inclined family, so
he never took lessons. That’s why he believes that
his heart was made to make music for God’s glory.
“We love the feedback when we perform,” he
said. “Seeing people using the words of our songs
to allow God to touch their hearts is why we put
aside our day-to-day lives and make music.”
With loads of credentials under
their belt, the group, formerly
known as Day One, has scheduled a
CD release party for Saturday, May
19, in the memorial hall at Broad
Street United Methodist Church.
The party will feature live music
and a chance to talk one-on-one
with the band members.
Vocalist Rickey Long said they
are excited because of the powerful
tool the CD will be in their ministry.
He hopes to see people tap
into a level of praise and worship
that will bring about a change in
their lives.
“We aim high in our ministry because the God
we serve can do the impossible, and we believe that
this has been cultivated from our hearts and souls
to testify of the glory of God,” Long said. “We
want people to hear the music and tap into their
answers, their peace and realize that God reaches
down to the hearts of man as a deliver.”

Bio

With a new name and a new sound, the members of the contemporary gospel band JOINT HEIR have a new CD – “An Intimate Encounter”.
Based out of Statesville, NC, this high energy group – formerly known as Day One - has been on the scene for more than16 years, using its musical talents and faith to tell the power of God’s love. To distinguish themselves even more in the industry, the decision was made in 2006 to change the group’s name to JOINT HEIR.
Guaranteed to appeal to a variety of audiences, “An Intimate Encounter” has an urban contemporary gospel sound that is both inspirational and electrifying. The song, “Your Love is Amazing” will grab listeners who enjoy classic R&B, while the hip-hop sound of “Try Jesus” will delight younger fans. All of the songs are original and are performed by some of the best musicians on the east coast.
The seven-member group was conceived by veteran musician/writer Freddie Morrison, who performed professionally for many years as bass guitarist for the R&B group Janice. The other members of JOINT HEIR are: Brandon Carr, Bryant Gabriel, Rickey Long, Derone McNeill, Daniel Kondas and Donnie Propst. In addition to being outstanding musicians, they all are also incredible men of faith, actively participating in their church’s music programs.
Since 1994, these musicians have been overwhelmed by the response of their audiences as they opened for such gospel greats as Yolanda Adams and toured in Rome and Naples as part of a mission team. In 2003, they were named “Contemporary Gospel Group of the Year” by the North Carolina Gospel Announcers Guild. Their first CD, “Standing on the Promises” helped rocket their popularity throughout the south and made them a favorite at gospel music concerts and events.
This project was recorded by CARR-Iz-Matic Studio and co-produced by Brandon Carr and Freddie Morrison.
