"indie-rockers Jolan log on to success"

Dapto band Jolan are a good example of the power of internet marketing.

Since posting their first EP on social networking site MySpace three months ago, the band has sold more than 400 CDs and their web page has received 18,222 hits, and counting.

Not bad for a band that hasn't even played a live gig yet.

The indie-rock five-piece took this inverted approach so they would have CDs to sell once they actually scored a gig.

"I had so many friends who had been gigging for two years and people would want something solid from them but they would have nothing: no photos, no music recorded; so I decided to just do it full-on," singer Reese Szabo said.

The enthusiastic 22-year-old - who sings a little like Morrissey - joins Nick Tyrrell on bass, drummer Fab Cicero, guitarist Paul McCarthy and keyboardist Andrew Relf on the four-track EP, Lost in Song.

The CD was recorded over six days at Sydney's BJB Studios using vintage equipment and old fashioned reel-to-reel technology courtesy of producer Chris Townend, who has worked with the likes of The Sleepy Jackson and Natalie Imbruglia.

It was mastered by Sterling Sound in the United States.

The whole package - including a video clip shot by Wollongong's Relativity Studios - cost Szabo $14,000.

"We put it online and it just snowballed, it blew up."

Jolan will play their first gig at the Oxford Tavern on May 7, supporting Sydney rock band The Sunpilots.

Hailing from Sydney comes a fresh sound and approach to Songwriting….. Jolan

This independant alternative/rock 5-piece released their self-funded independant EP “Lost in song” in 2008 to some great reviews and pretty decent record sales (we think anyway)

3 weeks into the release they were selected as “Australian Myspace Artist of the Week” which had them featured on the main myspace home page, and also the Australian section of myspace. It resulted in over 4000 hits in 3 days, and a total of 80,000 to date.

Taking influence for their sounds and production from the likes of The Killers, U2, Radiohead, Coldplay and Snow Patrol they combine it with a songwriting influence of Harry Chapin, Lobo, Brian Wilson and other 70's singer/songwriters.

Think Billy Joel hanging out with Brian Eno?

Having recently completed a 10 track album at the beautiful 301 Studios in Sydney Jolan are preparing for their 2011 release with the aid of their manager Stuart Coupe.

Aiming to deliver passionate, intelligent lyrics with strong melody & atmosphere, Jolan are a band worth keeping your eyes (and ears) on.
