Bio

After two years in New York writing and performing for other musicians, the now Auckland based, composer, musician, sound engineer and “visionary” Jol Mulholland is back to releasing and fronting his own music.

‘Cry if you want to’ is the first single from his new yet-to-be-released album ‘Stop and Start Again’ (25 July).

The album was written and recorded over a matter of months, amongst working on other musician’s projects, touring and moving back to New Zealand.

Jol has performed with and composed, produced and mixed for some of New Zealand’s most well-known musicians as well as musicans in New York and the UK.  “Start listing all the musical projects he’s been involved in, and you’re looking at more than a page.” - Lydia Jenkin, NZ Musician. To name a ‘few’, Anika Moa, Chris Knox, Liam Finn, Laurence Arabia, Connan Mockasin, Andrew Keoghan, Eden Mulholland, Lindon Puffin, Nightchoir…

He is the front man for bands The Mots and Gasoline Cowboy, and has been part of The Lab recording studio in Mt Eden, Auckland, as a producer, engineer, song-writer and musician. Jol has a reputation as a technically capable and creatively prolific asset to any musical project.

“Jol Mulholland possesses the kind of musical talent that is so ridiculous, you almost roll your eyes, it’s a talent for effortless and joyful creativity that keeps him ridiculously busy.” - Lydia Jenkin, NZ Musician

Mulholland is a master of the smart, grunty hook, and confidence oozes from every burnished chord.”  - Grant Smithies

“He is, in my opinion, one of the most talented and gifted musician slash producers I have ever worked with.  He is an amazing engineer and mixer too…his creative output is never ending…I admire Jol and look up to him as a songwriter and visionary.” - Anika Moa

“I’ve always really admired Jol as a musician and he really is untameable. What he thinks goes straight to his fingers, and it’s beautiful. I’m very turned on by his ability.”  - Liam Finn
