BandPop

Pop songs about girls, dreams, loneliness, and longing.

Biography

In 2003, while attending the University of Georgia in Athens as an undergraduate art student, Jonathan Aseron (already head deep in Kid A, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots) began to write music. Using an 8-track, guitar, and synthesizer, he started to record guitar-based pop in his bedroom. Under the moniker Cheeto FOol, Jonathan dropped his first single that year, "Cheeto FOol (the song)" - a subtle mix of drum machine and hauntingly indecipherable vocals. With additional vocal harmonies by then unknown Shigmaster 17, "Cheeto FOol (the song)" was a critical success and immediately dubbed an instant underground classic. Overwhelmed by such ovation, Jonathan fled to the nearby countryside to search for a deeper meaning in life...and music. Finding inspiration in a dried rivulet, he decided to hone his pop sensibility with a critical eye and ear towards song-craft. After a brief stint in Brooklyn, N.Y., Jonathan moved to Austin, TX in 2006 to pursue an M.F.A. at the University of Texas. While in school, he joined Joseph Winchester and Amelia Winger-Bearskin to form the band, Paper Landscapes. Paper Landscapes played a few shows around Austin before dismantling in 2008. Since graduating in May 2009, Jonathan has devoted much of his current time to gardening and recording Cheeto FOol's anticipated full-length debut.

Lyrics

Bend Down

Written By: Jonathan Aseron

this is the saddest song
i've ever written on my own
i feared this day would come
i feel the cold down in my bones
beneath the tallest trees
the turning leaves
are the same color
i hear a gentle breeze
just like the sound of any other

bend down
bend down

this is the saddest song
i've ever written on my own
my hands are hard as stone
i can't believe what i've become
the sky is old and gray
the passing day fades out and flutters
as quick as it had come
it leaves for night as darkness covers

bend down
bend down
bend down
bend down

Shadow

Written By: Jonathan Aseron

i can always change
i will never keep you waiting
and i can feel it through the phone
your voice gets colder
and turns to stone

but i know you well
enough to take us all the way
i can see you in the dark
silhouette it rises
then falls apart

so i want to
tell you
where i'm gonna go
fading out with
the songs i barely know
and i could find you
without ever knowing
oh tell me what
are your intentions for letting go

i can always change
i will never keep you waiting
beneath lights of gold
our love feels weathered
but never old

We Don't Feel The Same As We Used To Feel

Written By: Jonathan Aseron

one, two, three, four, five, six
will you pick up your sticks
will you pick em' and stick em'
into place

winter comes and it goes
but we both surely know
that we'll be around when
there's no snow

should we see the same stars as we
drive in our cars
let it be we both agree
to feel happy again

cause we don't feel the same
as we used to feel

the clouds peek up and down
on your face and on the ground
while we stare through the air
at the sky

winter comes and it goes
but we both surely know
that we'll be around
when there's no snow

should we see the same stars
as we lie in our yards
let it be we both agree
to feel happy again

cause we don't feel the same
as we used to feel
