Jonathan Brooks

Jonathan Brooks

BandFolkBlues

A culmination of an eclectic range of new folk sounds with blues and soul influences, combining realistic yet poetic lyricism with familiar and humble melodies. A sound which is hard to pin down, however it's accessibly easy on the ears and (I hope) profound in it's lyricism, honest and heartfelt.

Biography

Stumbling into Brighton University in 2012, Jonathan experienced, with a surge of ambition, the insatiable desire to create music. His folk/blues sound is hard to pin down, producing universally poetic lyricism to careful machinations of emotive guitar melodies. He strives to create humbling sounds reflecting his feelings towards a generation of people losing touch with the reality of honest music produced from the essence of experience, in fortune and misfortune, attuned to an emerging genre of music and people. So immerse yourself and please, enjoy.

Lyrics

My Mistake

Written By: Jonathan Brooks

Years you've lived, so how could you
Ever think sarcasm was wise
Gentle breath, New and real
Dry to taste like juniper pine

Arriving late, I couldn't find
The part of me that I left behind
Scrawled in ink, the terms laid bear
The price, embrace, a sizeable fine
Draw the line, at this

How was I to know
How was I to know
How was I to know, you felt
You felt this way

As I live and breathe, to see you on the street
It beggars all the things I once believed
As I live and breathe, to see you on the street
It beggars everything I now believe

How was I to know
How was I to know
How was I to know, you felt
You felt this way, my mistake

Ignore Me Then

Written By: Jonathan Brooks

My ears try without purpose, though cannot hear themselves
While eyes see without wanting, exist that way as well

Tell the walls I'm hurting, expecting no reply
'Cause Silence speaks in verses, when others would be wry

The painting I knew better, was smooth beneath my hand
Now modern in its image, I barely understand

Cry for what you've lost, not for others' gain
'Cause that's selfish, and you know it, and that would be a shame (a crying shame)

My recent thoughts confuse me, though clever I may be
If ever there were feelings, then why a boy like me?

We struggle as a species, for answers that aren't there
So I will always question why people choose to care

Cry for what you've lost, not for others' gain
Explored that darker route before, but suffering remained
At times convincing went too far, and they forgot your name
'Cause that's selfish, and you know it, and that would be a shame

When no one has the courage to explain,
and you're the only person left to blame
