BandPopAdult Contemporary

Jonathan draws from the optimistic undercurrent and soul and funk sensabilities of Stevie Wonder, fused with the current guitar based pop music of today. His mission in music is to take the delicious qualities of an infectious groove and melody and make people feel the need to tap their feet.

Biography

Originally from Chicago, San Francisco based singer/songwriter, Jonathan Douglas, studied classical guitar at Indiana University before moving to Los Angeles and attending Hollywood's Musician's Institute. While at MI, Jonathan discovered the music of Stevie Wonder and began his own songwriting path. It was the experience of writing a song for a friend's wedding that solidified the decision to dedicate himself to singing and writing songs. In April 2006, Jonathan performed on the CW hit show "The Gilmore Girls," and after playing the lead in a stage production of "School of Rock" in the bay area, he decided to move to San Francisco. Currently, Jonathan is playing out several nights a week in San Francisco with his band while seeking label interest. Jonathan's music can be described as energetic with a mix of jazz, blues and funk motifs woven into his contemporary guitar based sound.

Misunderstanding

Written By: Jonathan Douglas Hesbol

I found out on a weekend when she left without a sound
She was feeling down I guess
I could hardly believe it
The way these clouds they rain on my charade
They see straight through I guess

These white knuckles cling to
The little things that are never gonna change

Chorus:
If I don’t agree with this and you don’t believe in that
Then there’s no misunderstanding
But when I’m running in place and the years they pass me by
I’m simply misunderstanding it all

As I tripped on my shoe lace I knew I can’t account for everything
Be mindful of the little things I guess
I was looking up looking for a better place in life
That was just beyond my reach

Hope shoulders doubt and begins to fade

(Chorus)

We walk around while looking down
It’s hard to smell the flowers that surround this place
We’ll never find what’s between the lines
And everything remains misunderstood

You sew your heart to your sleeve
And you’re wounded by the needle threading through
Sometimes this life can be so cruel
And then you close off your emotion
You don’t let anybody in
Is this the way want to live
You’re somewhere out there
But you’re not ever coming home

(Chorus)

Touch

Written By: Jonathan Douglas

Sweet sweet sensation
like fingers down my spine
the way your voice makes me
tangled up inside

you stare me down and watch me
start to shake
I get so nervous but I want you
just the same
Take your love and lay it all on me
You got a little something
girl you're way too much
and it scares me just to think
If we got a little crazy
and we finally touch
how amazing it would be

We are both here and naked
under everything
For all I know you may want me
way down deep and in between

You give me just enough to
start to think
that we could be something delicious
don't you want to
you know they better
hold me down when you look at me
you got a little something
girl you're way too much
and it scares me just to think
if we got a little crazy
and we finallly touch
how amazing it would be

Open up your mind
and take my thoughts out for a ride
Open up your eyes
and take my world out for a spin
you are the sea sized crush
that I've been swimming in

Comparisons

Written By: Jonathan Douglas Hesbol

I worry that I'm just an anybody
At the trodden mat before your door
Overwhelmed by the thought of those who've stood here before

I'm bigger than the world will ever notice
Smaller than my ego will concede
I'm hanging in the balance with my hands tied
Banking on a change from week to week

I never really thought till now

This could be better if I don't look down
This could be better if I just threw out my useless comparisons

It's hard to say why and yet I'm sure it's no surprise
That I defined the line dividing where we stand

I'm frozen by my baffled disposition
As your ripple continues to expand

I never really thought till now
This could be better if I don't look down
This could be better if I just threw out my useless comparisons
I'm just another vacant face
Another specimen to be encased
A whole identity that's gone to waste
Pinned down by comparison

Around and around
I wish that I was bullet proof
I wish I could just see this through
Without having to always look at you

I never really thought till now
This could be better if I don't look down
This could be better if I just threw out my useless comparisons
I'm just another vacant face
Another specimen to be encased
A whole identity that's gone to waste
Pinned down by comparison

Let's Take a Moment

Written By: Jonathan Douglas Hesbol

Let’s take a moment
And introduce ourselves
The way I always wished we would but never did
Let’s take a moment
To put on a shameless grin
Let’s get caught up in the rush of something new
Trading warmth and whispers in the corner of the room
Let’s take a moment to explore
A much more intimate pursuit

Let’s take a moment
To collect ourselves
We haven’t framed this situation
Like we should
Let’s take a moment
To paint a softer mood
Let’s forget that we should probably be discreet
And carve our twisted silhouettes into the sheets
Let’s take a moment to explore
A much more intimate pursuit

So walk by and roll your eyes
Pretend that you don’t give a damn
And I’ll pretend that I don’t notice when
You turn your face just to catch a glimpse of me

Let’s take a moment
Because it’s all we have
And I don’t want to waste it on some cheap excuse
Let’s take a moment
It’s all we have to lose
Soon we’ll think about the role that we both played
And speak of longingly the greatest love we never made
Let’s take a moment to explore
A much more intimate pursuit
Let’s take a moment darling
