Aimed at strengthening relations between both countries, the program “Teachers del Norte - Pianists del Sur” was created to offer Argentine young pianists the opportunity of traveling to the United States in 2009 on scholarships, to participate in festivals and international competitions and attend summer courses at institutions like the Eastman School of Music, the University of Utah, the Brighman Young University, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation, the University of Tennessee and Steinway Hall in New York.

Piano auditions were carried out during August 25, 26 and 27 at the Franz Liszt Musical Studies Center. Pianists selected to travel to the United States were Jonathan B. Guelfand (17) from the province of Buenos Aires... - Embassy of the United States

Bio

Jonathan Guelfand was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He's a pianist and a composer/songwriter.
He started with his piano studies at the age of 4.
He participated in several auditions, concerts and masterclasses in USA and Argentina, from 2007 to the present date.
In 2008, he resulted winner of the international piano competition "Teachers del Norte - Pianists del Sur". The jury of the competition was formed by authorities of several famous institutions like the Juilliard School, Steinway and Sons, University of Utah, among others.
On 2009 he won a full-tuition scholarship for the "International Keyboard Institute and Festival", located in New York City.
Last year (2010) he got a scholarship from the "National Arts Found", in Argentina.
He gave several concerts as a soloist, and as part of chamber ensembles with the National's Radio Youth Symphony Orchestra of Argentina and also participated as a soloist in a historical-musical show organized by the Hungarian Embassy in Argentina.
He started composing at the age of 14. He presented his compositions and songs as part of his piano recitals and auditions, with great reception from the audience.
