BandChristianAdult Contemporary

My songs are for ministering to and edifying the church. They speak of joy and heartache, doubt and peace, honesty and love. The music is contemporary in style and is often piano-driven, but is always scripturally based and more often than not comes from moments of personal struggle and conviction.

Biography

Jonathan Snow Carpenter is an emerging Christian artist, as evidenced through his talents as a composer, singer, songwriter, teacher, and gifted musician.

His pursuit of music began at an early age; his love for music and ministering to people through the gift of song developed much later in life, and compels him today to compose music that honors that purpose. In his original music, Jonathan reveals the power of a single note or a simple phrase. It is through his masterful compositions and rousing praise anthems that he expresses his love for the God he serves and he reaches out to the masses with the saving message of Jesus Christ.

Jonathan’s strong portfolio of work and commitment to musical performance garnered him slots in several choice music schools in the nation. He studied Vocal Music at Henderson State University, obtained a Master of Music in Composition from Baylor University, and in 2004, began working toward his Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Despite his extensive education in musicianship, music theory, and performance, Jonathan surrendered to full-time ministry in 2005. Today, Jonathan serves as a Minister of Music in Southeast Arkansas near his hometown and expresses that he is “most interested in being a minister who happens to use music most of the time, but will do whatever it takes to minister to a person or group of people.” Since he began his full-time ministry role, Jonathan has heeded a renewed calling and returned to the very thing that had fueled his passion for music many years earlier: composition.

Through his service, he has rediscovered his love for singing, songwriting, arranging, reading, and writing. His passionate themes are apparent on his latest CD, The Heart on My Sleeve, which was released in May of 2007. Live performances have quickly followed and have taken Jonathan on the road, playing venues large and small across the southern and mid-western United States.

Hailing from Hamburg, Arkansas, Jonathan now resides in Monticello, Arkansas, with his wife Kimberly and son, Micah Ryne, after brief stints living in Texas and Colorado. The family is committed to consistently live wholly and completely in God’s will, knowing that He will always provide what is necessary for the furtherance of His Kingdom.

Lyrics

Carry Them

Written By: Jonathan Snow Carpenter

I’ve got a friend that’s headed nowhere just as fast as he can go,

Not sure how much longer he can last…

He’s been clinging to his bottle with his right hand while the left one holds his past,

Just can’t seem to let them go…

I’ve got a friend whose body is breaking down all around.

People can’t help but wonder how much longer she will last

And the flowers in her hospital room can’t replace all the smiles and the tears from her

Friends and her family and she knows she’s fading fast…

So won’t you help me pick up these broken friends?

Won’t you help me pick them up if you can?

Help me carry them, carry them, carry them to Jesus.

Carry them, carry them, carry them to Jesus.

I’ve got a friend who used to wake up Sunday mornings just like me

And stand in front and preach,

But he made some big mistakes and now the guilt he holds inside where none can see

Keeps forgiveness out of reach.

So won’t you help me pick up this broken man?

Won’t you help me pick him up if you can?

Help me carry him, carry him, carry him to Jesus.

Carry him, carry him, carry him to Jesus.

There once was a crippled man with four amazing friends

Who heard that Christ had come into their town

And one of them called the others inside… and he cried,

“Won’t you help me pick up our crippled friend? Help me pick him up if you can.”

“Won’t you help me pick up our crippled friend? Help me pick him up if you can

And we will carry him, carry him, carry him to Jesus.

Carry him. We’ve got to get in to see Jesus…”

Grace...eternal

Written By: Jonathan Snow Carpenter

You came into this world so full of joy and full of life…

A blessing of innocence with so much love flashing in your eyes.

How could we have known that you were on your way home

From the moment you were born?

And you were already in His hands…

Every time your daddy held you, God was holding you instead…

Yeah, you were already in His arms…

Now you’ll spend your time with Jesus…

An eternity with Jesus…

Thanks to the grace given in Jesus…

Just like your daddy said.

You were an answer to the countless heartfelt prayers…

The time on their knees that they had spent to prepare.

How could we complain that you would follow him home?

It’s what they prayed for all along.

And you were already in His hands…

Every time your mommy held you, God was holding you instead…

Yeah, you were already in His arms…

Now you’ll spend your time with Jesus…

An eternity with Jesus…

Thanks to the grace given in Jesus…

No, I don’t understand why it happened this way.

I just can’t comprehend the pain of those who still remain,

But I know, I know we’ll see each other someday

And we will praise His Name

‘Cause you were already in His hands…

I'll Fly Away

Written By: Albert E. Brumley

Some glad mornin' when this life is o'er

I'll fly away

To my home on God's celestial shore,

I'll fly away.

I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away.

When I die, Hallelujah by and by,

Oh, I'll fly a-way.

When the shadows of this life have gone,

I'll fly away

Like a bird from prison bars has flown,

I'll fly away.
