"Featured on Fly Global Ezine"

"Alternating between English and Portuguese, sometimes even within a song, Stier is a singer/songwriter with a lot to say. At times filled with heartache, at others, entrenched in deeply political themes, Stier has built himself a firm foundation in his Brazilian roots, while encompassing the current state of folk."

Bio

Combining pop and rock, singer-songwriter Jonathan Stier punches every song out with strength and fervor. Reading his name you would never guess at his Brazilian roots. Even so, this white boy was born and raised in southeast Brazil. Which explains the slight accent, not to mention the songs in Portuguese.

Singing in both Portuguese and English, his songs are a beautiful blend of rhythmic guitar and uninhibited vocal emotion. This guy is not afraid to wail if the mood is right. It takes just that sort of release for you to rip your thoughts away from his intricate guitar plucking/strumming style.

Calling the OC his new home, Stier has opened for local celebrities such as Tyrone Wells and Mike Barnet. He will be featured on Open Mic TV, a show produced by Mike Barnet, which showcases local talent on Time Warner Cable. He is planning tours across the US, and is now promoting his new album in southern California.

This is Stier’s second album. His first album was an acoustic EP released in 2003, showing his softer side. His latest album was recorded in Brazil in 2005. Using his background in audio production, Stier was able to act as producer, as well as engineer on all of his tracks. He was lucky enough to enlist the help of accomplished Brazilian musicians Leo Pires, Marcilio de Almeida, and Leonardo de Carmo who added the perfect blend of skill and subtlety to the album.
Jonathan attributes his varying style to his growing list of iconic influences, ranging from Brazilian bosa nova to good old American rock-n-roll. He was brought up listening to the Beatles, Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and other classics. He was also greatly influenced by Brazilian musicians such as Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso, and Djavan. He is continually experimenting musically, adapting all styles of music to his own rhythmic acoustic, and blurring the line between pop and folk rock.
