Jonathan plays guitar music that is difficult to contain on a typical guitar. Whether in a band or as a solo performance, his far reaching sounds and textures have riveted audiences for years. From churches, coffee houses, to festivals, to a full house at the ROXY.
Jonathan began his love affair with music and the guitar in 1976 at the age of 10. Peter Frampton and Led Zeppelen were among his early influences. The 1980's hair-metal bands came and went. The Scorpions former guitarist Ulrich Roth and his "Sky Guitar" were a huge inspiration. Roth's fluid "violin influenced" lead guitar phrasing fueled the desire to have a bow playable guitar. This was easier said than done. Jonathan concentrated on developing his first bowed guitar the "Electric Arpeggione" during the 1990's. Though he played in a band for a period, the rock band format did not lend to his vision. This lead to the development of current instrument the "TogaMan"GuitarViol and the beginnings of his R&D company Jonathan Wilson Designs.
In addition to building TogaMan GuitarViols for other artists (such as Narada/World records "Axiom of Choice"), Jonathan performs his GuitarViol music at a variety of events and makes appearances on other studio projects.
