"Waltz-Astoria Showcases Local Talent"

This is an artist whose album I cannot stop playing. It’s an album you can get up and dance to, or sit down and cry to. “What I can tell you about Jon,” Waltz-Astoria Art Director Pedro Gonzalez said, “is that he is a loyal supporter of Waltz, he’s got talent, one of the most polished singers we’ve had here and he puts out his emotions every time he performs. He is passionate and loves his music. We are grateful to have Jon perform here along with all of the artists who have supported us throughout the last six years.” - Jill Parshley, The Queens Gazette

"Blues and Gospel from America to Very Heart of Europe"

I am not a fan of all those modern sounds in music, loops and samples are not my thing. But in Jon Christopher’s hands they sound like another instrument, not only that, an instrument played by a classy musician. His voice is deep and it's impossible not to pay attention to his singing. The songs have interesting lyrics and arrangements are equally great - those modern touches suit Jon’s style perfectly. Some people think that Joe Stone is the biggest thing that happened to soul music recently. Well, they should listen to Jon Christopher and think again. - Przemek Draheim, Polish Blues & Radio Host - Member of The Blues Foundation

Bio

Meet Jon Christopher, a tour-de-force of raw emotion, visceral lyrics and vibrant melodies. His appreciation of a mosaic of artists like Seal, Cat Stevens, Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, and D’Angelo, has inspired Jon to create a hot blend of R&B, blues and rock. His third and newly released album, "Jon Christopher," melts boundaries and transcends genre.
Every track of this new record bears witness to Jon’s talent as a dedicated singer, songwriter and musician - from the chilling vocal delivery of "Want Me Now" to the stripped down poetry of "You Are Alive" to the head-bopping grooves of "Another Drop of Rain” and “Save Another." It was recorded in Austin, TX with producer Billy White within 7 months. White did the programming, and played the electric base, electric and acoustic guitar, and percussion and JJ Johnson was on drums (formerly of the John Mayer Trio). The songs were topped off by some sweet soulful backup vocals by Sasha Ortiz, Tameca Jones, and Pam Miller. Jon mixed his album with Dave Boyle at his Church House Studios on the East Side of Austin. In addition to mixing the tracks, Boyle played piano, clavinet, organ, & the Wurlitzer. Jon brought it back home to NYC and it has all the ingredients of a great record - most importantly, a passion that will be apparent to listeners from the moment they press play.
From the time he picked up a guitar at age 14, Jon has surrendered himself to music. He has spent the majority of his adult life between Austin, Texas and New York City, playing at venues such as La Zona Rosa, the Knitting Factory, Bitter End, Waltz-Astoria, The Cutting Room, LIC Bar, and performing on media outlets like the Austin Music Network, Fox Morning News, the “Austin Live” show on KEYE TV & KLBJ 93.7 FM. Jon is a hardworking musician in NYC, dedicating any spare time to his riveting, heart pumping lyrics and sounds. It’s just a reminder which encourages us to keep moving forward and to never stare back. Like he says in “Keep Singing Your Song,” ‘Let them sleeping dogs lie, and let God play his games in the sky, Ain’t no use wondering why, just keep on moving on.” Jon captures an honesty and reality that makes you want to keep singing your song. At Jon’s upcoming performance at The Cactus Cafe, Thursday September 1st, 2011 at 8:30pm, he will debut hits from his new album.
