Old Key West Singer/Songwriter. Original Folk and Blues with an accent on metaphysics and spirituality played in a finger picking style on acoustic guitar in the writing style of Harry Chapin and vocal style of Gordon Lightfoot. I love a great story and love to tell them in very entertaining ways.

Biography

Old Key West Singer/Songwriter
It all started for me in Old Key West, at the end or beginning is US 1 depending on your point of view, long before the island paradise became known as Margaritaville. I had just been discharged from the Army and I returned to this out of the way place from my youth to readjust to civilian life. After a few years of island life and commercial fishing adventures I started to perform around key West at Singer/Songwriters venues still popular and in existence to this day. I did the opening slot at Sloppy Joe's from 12 noon to 4 pm, 'Happy Hour' at Rick's across the street and late night 'gigs' at the Pier House, Captain Tony's and The Reach performing from one end of the island to the other usually followed up by most of us musicians getting together at the Blue Moon Cafe for jamming the rest of the night away. At this time in Old Key West Folk, R&B and Blues were the prevailing sounds of the day and original music was welcomed and appreciated. This is where I met and shared stages with many other troubadours from Rambling Jack Elliot and Steve Goodman to Bill Blue and Bari Cuda, honing my guitar skills and sharing guitar licks and song ideas along the way. After many years of performing from Key West to Key Largo, I ventured out on the road and found a home by the sea every summer in Panama City Beach at Pineapple Willies where I spent more summers than I can remember from Memorial Day to Labor Day celebrating the joys of summer - performing seven days a week to never ending crowds of beach goers intent on making the most out of every sun drenched day with a sound track of my smooth acoustic grooves. In the winter I hit the road again performing on cruise ships in the Caribbean, clubs on South Beach, all across America, Canada, Europe and as far away as the Hard Rock Hotel in Kuda Beach on the island of Bali in Indonesia, a twenty five year long road trip. My original music in the style of Folk and Blues reflects the expanse of human experience with an emphasis on metaphysics and spirituality in the story telling style of Harry Chapin and Cat Stevens. My finger picking guitar playing style produces a rich blend of multiple tones that at once creates generous, full bodied melodies that hold these songs together. Today you will find me comfortably enjoying myself in Maine where they say "life is as it should be' and I couldn't agree more. I am a long way from Key West but still feel at home here in the Northeast with the same 'independent spirit' on this end of US 1 as the other. You can find me performing at local festivals, concerts, clubs and special events and forever an Old Key West Singer/Songwriter at heart.

Working For Somebody Else Just Don't Pay

Written By: Jon Fernans

Won't someone please hear my case, I'm working in a place and I just can't relate to the hours and the pay for six bloody days and until I get a break this is where i'm going stay, working for somebody else I said it just don't pay. I've got me a job and man it really sucks, but I just figure it's part of my bad luck and what the hell you know a bucks -a-buck, and I'll get out of here with any kind of luck but working for somebody else i said it just don't pay.
BRIDGE#1: Now don't get me wrong folks it's not that I'm lazy, it's just that I'd have to be pretty damn crazy too work so hard for somebody else when I could be making more if I was working for myself.
I'm working my life away for so little pay, I'm waiting all week for the seventh day and in the back of my mind I know that the'll come a time the things that I dream of one day will be mine, working for somebody else i said it just don't pay.
BRIDGE#1: REPEAT.
I know this story ain't no front page news, it's just another case of working man's blues but someday maybe when I have paid my dues I'll get out of here and that will be news, working for somebody else I said it just don't pay.

Ain't Life A Bitch

Written By: Jon Fernans

I've been stepped on I've been kicked around I've been lied to I've been dumped upon, I've been set-up, I've been let down, I've been given a case of the run-a-round, I love music but I hate the biz. I'd go back to Kansas if I could find the wiz, ain't life a bitch, ain't life a bitch.
I have worked nice clubs I have worked in dives I worked Holiday Inns just to stay alive I have opened malls, closed dance halls, I've played weddings yeah I've done em' all, been on the road and I've played cruise ships I am paying my dues until I get a hit and ain't life a bitch, ain't life a bitch.
I've been over worked I've been underpaid, I've been rain out on holidays I've worked for jerks, mean dirt bags, young putzs and old scum bags, blown out speakers and broken strings these are just a few of my favorite things and ain't life a bitch ain't life a bitch.
BRIDGE: Now all this complaining is very entertaining but my life is too short for this kind of retort and i've been told by the very wise none of get out of here alive, ain't life a bitch, ain't life a bitch.
I have played long sets without a rest in the mid-day heat down in Old Key West, I've played in pain I've played in the rain I've played with the noise from loud jet planes, in smoke filled rooms with air so stale i have played in the snow with the snow and the hail, ain't life a bitch, ain't life a bitch.

Mirror Of Me

Written By: Jon Fernans

All the good and bad qualities, that you love or hate about me, there the same ones that you posses. and what you love and hate about yourself, call me crazy but I know it's true, your a mirror of me and I'm a mirror of you. You can't love in somebody else, what you don't love within' your self, and what you hate about yourself, your gonna hate in everyone else, you might all ready know and this ain't news, your a mirror of me and I'm a mirror of you. When you see in somebody else, the qualities that you posses, the character that they project, that's a mirror image you reflect, it's elementary when you see the clues, your a mirror of me and I'm a mirror of you. Always look before you leap and you'll avoid the fire's heat, cause if you rush to judge somebody else, you might be passing judgement on your self, there's no exceptions and it's always the rule, your a mirror of me and I'm a mirror you.

Nothing In This Life

Written By: Jon Fernans

First impressions rarely last and they don't reveal a past, and when you think you think you know, all you know is nothing at all 'cause you'll, never know someone, till you walk a mile in there shoes, nothing in this life is what it seems, like the reason a star shines, is because of it's dark background, nothing in this life is what it seems. The hardest thing to know in life, is if someone you love just might, be the one who you can share, an entire life 'cause you'll never know someone, till you walk a mile in there shoes, nothing in this life is what it seems, like the reason the stars shine, is because of their dark background, nothing in this life is what it seems. You'll never know a book, if you only see it's cover, and you'll never know a friend, like you'll know a lover like you'll, never know someone, till you walk a mile in there shoes, nothing in this life is what it seems, like the reason a star shines, is because of it's dark background, nothing in this life is what it seems. Open up you eyes you'll see, truth is full of irony, and the only thing that's guaranteed is, what will be will be and you'll, never know someone, till you walk a mile in there shoes, nothing in this life is what it seems, like the reason the stars shine, is because of there dark background, nothing in this life is what it seems.
