Eaglefeather - December 2008

In December 2008, Jon Holt released his debut record, “Eaglefeather”, after 10 years of stage performance and 35 years of strumming the guitar. “Eaglefeather” is an 11-song offering that cannot be caged into a single genre. Though the record encapsulates a common spirit of music to soothe and stir, the songs vary from Rock and Blues to Americana. It’s an enlightening and feel-good record for those who cherish music as their life’s own soundtrack.

One of the songs, “Jonny Eaglefeather”, is about a solo performer who touched and connected to all of his local people on the reservation through his words and music. Jonny suddenly felt compelled to form a band, called “Eaglefeather”, and leaves the reservation to connect with the rest of the world. His journey takes him through small bars and other venues throughout many states, and he touched every listener who was willing to be touched along the way. After many moons out on the road, he started having visions and dreams urging him to return to the reservation. Jonny Eaglefeather returned home to find that his people built him an enormous outdoor stage with a giant backdrop of an eagle feather.

Parallel to Jon Holt’s own experience of releasing his debut record, Jonny Eaglefeather’s mission is to offer his music to the world. “Eaglefeather” is a record with magical stylings that documents Jonny’s journey and how his music touched listeners on a mystical level. “Eaglefeather” is a concept album that explores the concept of a song’s strength to stir and soothe the soul of the listener.
