Bio

One of the most recognizable voices and versatile entertainers in Singapore, Jonathan Leong originated the lead role of 'Voyage de la Vie', the country's longest-running stage extravaganza, and was the first runner-up of "Singapore Idol' in 2006. His self written debut album, recorded in Mandarin and English, was released in September 2011 and a single off the record, "One More Chance", breached the Top 10 on the number one radio station in the country.

Weaned on music -- thanks to a musician father -- Jonathan studied classical piano from age 7 to 14 with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. At St Joseph's Institution, where he received his middle school education, he won his first singing competition.

The natural baritone's passion for music-making intensified as he pursued higher education. At 19, Jonathan formed and fronted the 5 man rock band, 'Reverie'. The band made a name for itself on the nocturnal circuit of Singapore's pub, bar and club scene even as its lead singer pursued a full-time Political Science degree at the National University of Singapore during the day.

After coming to national attention on "Singapore Idol", the franchise of Fremantle Media’s popular “Pop Idol” television singing competition, Jonathan was made an ambassador for the Motorola Product [RED] campaign, an initiative to alleviate the spread of HIV in Africa.
Seeking to broaden his artistic horizons, Jonathan auditioned for and secured the leading role of "The Boy" in “Voyage de la Vie”, the rock circus spectacular that was the inaugural resident production for Singapore's US$5 billion Resorts World Sentosa.

The role was physically demanding and during his run of 500 performances between 2009 and 2012, Jonathan not only displayed his vocal prowess but drew upon the agility and stamina honed by his years on Singapore's national fencing squad and the Singapore Armed Forces Commando unit.

A strong believer in hard work and lifelong learning, Jonathan has worked with show creators/ directors such as Philip Wm. McKinley ("The Boy from Oz", "Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark", "Ben Hur Live", "Ringling Bros."), Guy Caron (Cirque Du Soleil) and Maggi Sietsma (Franco Dragone, Expressions Dance Company).

Jonathan's new album will be released at the end of 2013.
