The best kept secret in music

excerpt - "Their sound includes an eclectic blend of rough and tumble blues and sweet folk-like harmonies. The combination creates seamless transitions...a combination of highs and lows." - Hannah Morton, Amherst Daily News - Amherst Daily News
Winner of the 2005 'Best New Local Artist' Jon McKiel....McKiel and company will have their debut album out in a matter of weeks, Stay tuned.....
- John Bruhm. - The Coast
"Album opener "Shores" is a perfect example of what McKiel can't explain. "Well I was wrong," he sings against initial silence, as LeBlanc storms in on the last word. Guitar, bass, piano and McKiel's own harmonies trip over one another to join him in a gorgeous soundscape that builds and collapses with a cymbal crash/piano chord duet. It's a beautiful song that introduces a full-sounding record…his nine-song, untitled record is the best thing to be released in Halifax since In-Flight Safety's latest." - The Coast

Bio
Jon resides in Calgary Alberta and sometimes Halifax Nova Scotia.
The music combines the raw acoustic feel of a singer songwriter with the driving bass lines and hard hitting drums typical of something louder and more abrasive.
Jon Mckiel's songs have been described as ones that can make you fall in love without even
knowing it. What started as a solo project as an album of mainly folk songs has turned into
a full band effort taking Jon and the band across Canada. The music is sincere and the delivery
is precise, heartfelt and intelligent. The debut cd was named one of The Coast Weekly's Top 50 worldwide of 06, as well Jon has been nominated for three Music Nova Scotia Awards including Best Male Performance, Best new artist and Best Alternative recording. The songs speak for themselves having the qualities of the traditional songwriter mixed with synth, bass and electric guitar. The overall product is an eclectic mix of indie meets folk and has earned the band much exposure and applause since the release of the album. The band is happy to be touring to support the album and has shared the stage with friends and bands like Matt Mayes, Joel Plaskett, Wintersleep, Cuff the Duke, and Brian Borcherdt. For now Jon Mckiel continues to tour and looks forward to the release of the next record slated sometime in the mid new year.
