Bio

Don’t leave vintage keyboard gear out where Jon Nicholson can see it. You might not get it back. “My house is becoming a mess of old keyboards,” says the Madison, Wisconsin spawned Nicholson. Jon’s music has a bit a vintage feel to it, only with a newer, more modern twist. Nicholson’s debut on Warner Bros. Records is completely unique; it’s a hybrid of soul, blues, funk and rock. He has managed to produce a passionately gritty debut that may foreshadow the next big thing in mainstream music. “I’m just a singer-songwriter and a mixture of all my favorite things. Being a singer-songwriter means you don’t have to slide into a category, you just play your songs and make real music.” Born and raised in a state that reveres Polka music as if it were a contemporary art form, Jon Nicholson is something of a musical revelation. The Wisconsin native grew up tuning his stereo to the middle-of-the-road Rock 'N' Roll and mainstream Country music that permeated the airwaves of the Midwest.
But, given time, he eventually discovered the rhythmic Soul of Otis Redding, the R&B stylings of Al Green and Teddy Pendergrass, the Gospel feel of Donny Hathaway, and an amalgamation of others cut from the same ilk. His album, A Lil Sump’m Sump’m, was produced by Angelo who also produced the Kings of Leon.
