Jonny Iverson

BandAmericanaSinger/Songwriter

I write pop songs in a variety of styles with an acoustic bent. My songs make you want to sing them in the shower or the car! Though no stranger to performing, I am primarily a songwriter, and looking for artists who would like to perform/record my songs. I write folk-pop, americana, and gospel.

Biography

After 20 years in the military, I'm transitioning to civilian life and picking up where I left off in the music world. I've been in bands, trios, duos, and solos, playing classics from the Limeliters to Led Zeppelin, but songwriting is my calling. My music is influenced by inspired classic works from a variety of musical greats. Simon, Springsteen, Wesley, Denver, U2, Taylor, Costello, Buffett, L&M, Harrison, R&H, CSN, Stevens, Stafford, and Grimwood & Idlet are just a few. My goal is to create great music that will stand the test of time, as my influences have done.

Lyrics

I've Gotta Tell You, Shelley

Written By: Jon C. Iverson

I’ve been around the world and I’ve seen a lot of places,
Observed a lot of people and perused a lot of faces.
There’s beauties and there’s uglies with their opposites inside,
And here and there I’ve found one whose face value hasn’t lied,
So not that I was looking though I couldn’t help but see, and I’ve gotta tell you, Shelley, you’re the only one for me.

I watch you in the morning and I watch you in the night.
I watch you when we’re loving and I watch you when we fight.
In public or in private it cannot escape my view
That no one has the precious kind of beauty that you do,
So not that I am looking though I just can’t help but see, and I’ve gotta tell you, Shelley, you’re the only one for me.

There’s a lot more to our union than a bonding based on looks.
It’s more than all the little things you read about in books.
It’s a force beyond the pull of magnetism’s glam-allure.
I’m not saying that it’s perfect, or it’s absolutely pure.

La da da da da da da da da, da da da da da da.
La da da da da da da da da, da da da da da da.

There’s a power past our consciousness that we don’t understand
And we feel it flowing through us when we’re strolling holding hands.
It’s a power from within that surges when I see your face;
Not a rush of ego’s liquor, but a taste of heaven’s grace.

Oh you don’t think you’re pretty but the mirror lies to you.
We never see ourselves they way that other people do.
From nagging fears in our subconscious to the inversion of the glass,
Truthful image is distorted like your always smoking grass,
So at you I’ve been looking though I still can’t help but see, and I’ve gotta tell you, Shelley, you’re the only one for me.
Yeah not that I’ll be looking though I’ll never help but see, and I’ll always tell you “Shelley, you’re the only one for me!”
