Brighter Than You Feel

Written By: Jonny Taylor

Tell me what is making you feel blue
Tell me what is hurting you
I know that you’re the brave one, keeping it all in
Holding it together but we’re all here for you

So set a fire to the world just to let it know you’re hurting
Set a fire to the night just to look at something brighter than you feel

Tell me what is making you feel blue
You’re smiling now but I can see right through
I’ve been there before man, I know how you feel
Truth hurts when you find out you lost your nerve of steel

So set a fire to the world just to let it know you’re hurting
Set a fire to the night just to look at something brighter than you feel

And time will heal all wounds, I know that’s hard to hear
Time will dry your eyes and time is all you need
To get back on your feet
To realise that you are so much more than just the pain you feel

So set a fire to the world just to let it know you’re hurting
Set a fire to the night just to look at something brighter than you feel

Young Man

Written By: Jonny Taylor

Young man, I wish you’d sober up
Cos I’d love to get to know what’s left of you
But tonight you’re a different man
To the man I thought you were this afternoon

Now I’m tired of seeing you through your glass of broken dreams
And I’m tired of seeing your elbows on the bar
And it breaks my heart to see you drown yourself
Young Man

Youn man, wish you’d open up
Cos I’d love to get to see what’s inside of you
But tonight you’re a different man
To the man I thought you were this afternoon

Now I’m tired of seeing you through your glass of broken dreams
And I’m tired of seeing your elbows on the bar
And it breaks my heart to see you drown yourself

You'll Never Break Me

Written By: Jonny Taylor

YOU’LL NEVER BREAK ME
Rosann was married for a long 28 years
She stayed with her husband for the sake of their three kinds
Till one day she turned around and said ‘this isn’t working out’, and she walked away

Soon enough she found herself a new man
He’s a few years younger and he gave her love she’d never had
Then one day something changed
A look came over his face and he hit her

She stepped outside and put her hands in the air
She said “You can try but you’ll never break me”
The sun will rise and shine on her face
With a tear in her eye she’ll say “Come embrace me,
As I learn to love myself”

Then one day he went crazy and he tried to kill her
She was bleeding on the floor but he’d stop at nothing
As Rosann lay lifeless and he realised what he’d one
He put a needle in his arm
He pulled the trigger and ended his life
But little did he know
That Rosann is a survivor

When Rosann woke up her face was shattered and paralysed
She took one look in the mirror but she couldn’t recognise herself
The heartbreak still remains, but she knows it’s not too late to start again

She stepped outside and put her hands in the air
She said “You can try but you’ll never break me”
The sun will rise and shine on her face
With a tear in her eye she’ll say “Come embrace me,
As I learn to love myself”

Stars On His Shoulder

Written By: Jonny Taylor

Third generation of military men, he loves the idea of being a man in uniform
He was just 18 when he signed the dotted line and joined up to the Navy to see what he could see
Six months later he was sent out on the water
He left the life he knew behind and a ship became his home

It’s a bittersweet feeling when you’re out there on the wild, wild sea
When your best friend’s a hand gun and the only one you’d trust to save your life
When he’s out there in the moonlight, watching the world roll by
It fills him with pride to be earning a star for his shoulder

In 2001 he was sent out to the border to keep eyes on asylum seekers trying to find a better life
He spent too long pulling babies from the wate, this isn’t what he had in mind when he set off to change the world
And seeing these desperate families reminds him of home
He’s got a daughter he’d die for, a woman he adores and step kids he loves like his own

They say “Tell me what you’re feeling”, because they can’t read his mind
He smiles and he says “Don’t you worry about me, my love”
When he’s out there in the moonlight, wading through the memories of home
It fills him with pride to be wearing a star on his shoulder

2007 gunfire he’s trying to stay alive. He comes out unscathed but others did not make it back to land
And he still sees the faces of those they laid to rest out on the water
And at Christmas time each year he’s forgiven for breaking down and the woman by his side just wants to make it right

She says “Tell me what you’re feeling, cause I can’t read you mind”
He smiles and he says “Don’t you worry about me my love”
When he’s out there in the moonlight wading through the memories of home
It fills him with pride to be wearing the stars on his shoulder
It fills him with pride to have earned the stars on his shoulder

Suffering In Silence

Written By: Jonny Taylor

SUFFERING IN SILENCE

I’ve got a hero, I’ve got a friend
I’ve got a brother who keeps all his troubles to himself
There’s something to be said about swallowing your pride
But it doesn’t make you any less of a man if you cry
On the shoulder s of the ones who care for you

I met a hero, a fourteen year old
She’s living with a hidden illness but no one would know
She’s got a spring in her step and a spark in her eye
But look close enough and on the edge of her smile
You’ll see a flicker of her pain trying to creep through

She’s got a secret that no one would know
A heavy burden, a heart made of gold
We could talk till she’s blue in the face but she’d never tell you
That she’s suffering in silence

I met a hero, a veteran of way
With a medal for each battle he survived but he’s not keeping score
He says a man is not measured by the battles lost or won
Or the number of times he’s fired a gun
He says the real heroes are the ones that never made it home

He’s got a secret that no one would know
A heavy burden, a heart made of gold
We could talk till he’s blue in the face but he’d never tell you
That he’s suffering in silence

They’ve got a secret that no one would know
A heavy burden, a heart made of gold
We could talk till they’re blue in the face but they’d never tell you
That they’re suffering in silence
