"JonPaul Wallace Rediscovers His Roots on Loves Not for Everyone"

JonPaul Wallace’s single “Love’s Not for Everyone” takes a different direction from his self-titled EP, rekindling his original roots and inspirations as a singer/songwriter growing up near Detroit.

The song highlights the difficulty of navigating love, loss, and love again, capturing the acceptance and loneliness that follows a relationship’s end. It emphasizes the difficult calm that comes with clarity.

The ideas for the “Love’s Not for Everyone” came together in bits and pieces as Wallace traveled to Northern Michigan and spent time away from the busyness of life. It was only after he got a chance to fully unplug and take in the scenic landscape of rural Michigan that the ideas all began to come together.

“On the expressway, I recorded a voice memo, and it just hit me. It’s what turned out to be the bridge for ‘Love’s Not for Everyone.’”

Suddenly, one day while he was working on his self-titled EP and looking back on his trip, the song fully appeared in his mind. He shifted his focus from working on the EP to writing “Love’s Not for Everyone”, finding the ideas flowing with ease.

“It all came together seamlessly. Then from that day, it was just a matter of tuning and adding some production elements, and after that the song was pretty much done.”

The moment of clarity Wallace found in Northern Michigan can be heard in the song. Wallace places the vocals and lyrics forefront, pushing back the production elements and instrumentation.

The simplicity allows for Wallace to tell the story of love with its rawness and vulnerability. The ballad connects Wallace’s singer-songwriter roots with his current life as a musician.

“It’s designed to let the story simply be,” said Wallace.

Recently, JonPaul Wallace has explored pop and hip-hop sounds on his recent EP, JonPaul Wallace, featuring up-tempo songs with more dance-like tracks. Even as “Love’s Not for Everyone” slows down the tempo and focuses on catharsis, it showcases Wallace’s versatility as he finds room to revisit the original sound he developed earlier in life.

Wallace is also known for his viral rewrite of Lukas Graham’s “7 Years” performed at his high school graduation. Across all platforms, the video has amassed over 20 million views, kickstarting his musical career. The rewritten lyrics take on his perspective as a hopeful high school graduate ready to take on the world, changing the song to be forward-looking and hopeful, rather than reflective and nostalgic.

Now, by changing the energy of his work, Wallace returns to his roots. The sentiment of Detroit’s Motown Sound, soul of Stevie Wonder, and expression of Frank Ocean and Billie Eilish all come together as JonPaul Wallace prepares for a busy 2022.

“I’ll be releasing about a single a month this year,” says Wallace with excitement.

Bio

This three piece band creates a sound and energy on stage that can match anyone. The set is comprised of the most high energy tracks from JonPaul Wallace's catalogue (both released and unreleased), as well as some carefully selected and arranged covers that can win over any crowd.

The genre is somewhere between pop, soul, alternative, and r&b. The songs have the melodic simplicity and sing-along ability of pop music, as well as pop/r&b production behind them. The vocals and instrumentation have soulful arrangements and performances. But the full band live set has the energy of a rock show that captivates the room and draws people in.

In 2023 alone, they have played Midwest House at SXSW (along with a few other SXSW showcases), Otus Supply in Ferndale, MI, The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, MI, Oakland University, and The Loving Touch in Ferndale, MI. They are also slated for a headline slot at the Love Where You Live Festival in Grand Rapids, and they will be performing at District 142 in Whyandotte, MI later this year. They have not played a show yet this year in which they were unable to get the room up and moving. Even when playing in front of new audiences in Texas, they were able to translate our energy to the audience and get the crowds dancing, singing, and jumping.

The full setup consists of JonPaul Wallace on vocals, keyboards, and guitar; Ryan Haley on guitar; Anthony Fiolek on drums and running tracks.

Stepping aside from the live performance aspect, JonPaul's music has been featured in countless tv and streaming shows, including March Madness, NFL, and NCAAF broadcasts, Love Island, Cash or Trash, and many more both in the US and abroad. He's also been featured on the 2023 "Just Dance" official anthem.
