The duo comprised of Jonray and Barbara have just two goals: To get you moving with their power synth infused indie and to do so with a positive message and healthy lifestyle. “After overcoming many of life’s obstacles such as alcoholism, drug abuse, death of close friends and family, it has helped our music transform and become more of who we are and strive to be,” Higginbotham says. “We are working towards an endless journey of self-growth.” That endless journey is where they derived the name, noting that Moonray is about embracing the darkness and pulling into the light.

The bandmates-- and couple-- can most often be found hiking, camping, bike riding and taking part in any and all outdoors activities, fueling their inspiration for their music. In fact, their writing process takes on an organic quality, as a large part of their writing process comes from spending time outside of the studio and in nature. 

“We allow ourselves to enjoy the moment and to come up with sounds that reflect our emotions at that time; our troubles, our dreams, hopes,” Jonray explains. Combining their healthy living philosophies with their passion for music, they are able to create music that offers a way to lift the spirits and soul. “[Our music] expresses the things we cannot explain of how we view life by putting it into sound,” he explains “We transpose our life experiences into sound.”

Moonray’s 2014 EP Freedom From The Realm was recorded in Higginbotham’s home studio, Kingdom Sound. Taking what he learned from that experience, Jonray is using his knowledge to help in the shaping of their second release, Digital Moon. The release is a personal one for Jonray, as they pulled inspiration from a dark time in his life. “This album is a reminder and we hope that it resonates with others who are fighting to overcome their troubles by helping them remember to embrace them, because they are the building blocks of who you become.” With a projected release date of Winter/Spring 2017 Digital Moon promises to bring more unique, synth indie to old and new fans alike.
