The new sound of Latin music is JONTRE!

OMNIVERSAL Jontre's 4th album is his new beginning in 2016

JONTRE performs an upbeat appealing blend of Latin and African American grooves with Colombian flavor. His catchy melodies, intelligent and up-lifting lyrics compel audiences to dance, love and get a little crazy. Colombian Folkloric rhythms such as Cumbia and Porro fuse seamlessly with Tumbaos de Salsa, Bolero, Blues, Funk and Merengue. Jontre’s music and velvety voice exude passion transporting us to a world of harmony aware of our inner nature. His positive energy is contagious; the stage is a vehicle to share his feelings of peace and joy.

Being a performer, composer, writer and musical producer; Jontre contributes to the cultural and musical enrichment of Colombia, Latin America and World Music.

Jontre has published three productions as a solo artist: “ROMAROPOCOL” (2011), “LOCURALEZA” (2008) and “ENLAZADO” (2005). In addition, Jontre’s single entitled “Locuraleza” is featured on the Putumayo World Music compilation Latin Beat. ROMAROPOCOL TOUR 2013 marks Jontre’s US debut but he has toured his native Colombia for 11 years. In 2011 he toured Europe gaining many new fans in France, Germany and Spain. In 2012 Jontre spread his unique Latin sound to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Crowds of thousands yelled “otra, otra” when he performed with Bonye’ at the famous Ruinas de San Francisco in Zona Colonial. Jontre regularly appears on National and International Broadcasts: W Radio, Radio Nacional de Colombia, UN Radio, Teleantioquia, Telemedellín, RCN Internacional, Como en Casa, Show del Mediodía, Chevere Night. In addition, he has been profiled in many print publications including Rolling Stone, Revista Shock, El Colombiano, and El Mundo.

“ROMAROPOCOL”, Jontre’s third album and title of his debut US tour, invites us to live our passion, here and now, even if others think we’re crazy. Backwards “ROMARAPOCOL” is Loco por Amor – Crazy for Love.

"LOCURALEZA" is the title song on his second album and featured single on PUTUMAYO World Music compilation Latin Beat. An ode to seduction, Jontre sings "I know what you want me to do to you, But, I'm afraid I'll drive you crazy." “LOCURALEZA” meaning - Crazy Nature.

“ENLAZADO” translated - Linked, Jontre’s first solo album, tells stories of his travels, living in Paris eventually returning to Colombia all the while entwining with people and places from his past. Musical influences from his creative relationships including funk, hip hop and Latin styles are all present.

Born in the neighborhood of Manrique, a suburb of Medellin, Jontre’s Father exposed him to Latin rhythms made famous by the Fania Allstars and tropical Colombian orchestras like Fruko y sus Tesos and Joe Arroyo. Jontre’s Father, a passionate percussionist and timbalero also taught Jontre all of the Latin dances including salsa, merengue, bolero and cha cha. At the age of nine, Jontre met his partner, the guitar. He was already composing and writing lyrics so it made for a perfect collaboration. In his teen years he became very influenced by the hip hop movement and African American rhythms learning this new style of street dance. By the age of fifteen he was a member of hip hop group, COOL YOUNG, performing at clubs and festivals ultimately producing the album “DÉJATE LLEVAR”. Simultaneously, he developed his music knowledge playing percussion in Batuta Symphony Orchestra and practicing his guitar, a constant companion. By his junior year in high school, he knew music would be his career forever. Continuing his development, he completed several semesters of music education at University of Antioquia and taught children guitar lessons. In 2000, anxious to fly and create, Jontre began a new life in Paris. He met two other young musicians, a Cuban and a Frenchman, creating a trio, FREAKY JAM, melding their cultures into one. Lured back to Colombia in 2002, seeking to connect with his roots and share his personal story, Jontre began his journey as a Solo artist. And thus, the sound of JONTRE was born.
