JON WERKING Pianist/Composer/Arranger/Producer

You've been hearing Jon Werking for years, you just didn't know it. Jon has been one of the most sought after pianists in the New York City area for many years. He has played piano and/or electronic keyboards on many feature films (including Gangs of New York, You've Got Mail, and Beauty and the Beast), and has performed with many artists that span a wide range of musical styles (including Patti Austin, Toni Braxton, Dave Grusin, Roberta Flack, Angela Bofill, and Phyllis Hyman. He has also performed and recorded with some of the top instrumentalists in jazz and R&B including Michael and Randy Brecker, Grover Washington Jr., Chuck Loeb, The New York Voices, Bill Evans, Nelson Rangell, Michel Camilo, Mark Egan, Larry Coryell, Bob Berg, and Dave Valentin.

Jon has also performed with various Orchestras such as the New York Pops and the Hartford Symphony as well as in the Buddy Rich Big Band and the orchestras of Broadway shows such as “Fosse”, “Aida”, and “Mamma Mia”.

As a composer, Jon's writing also encompasses a wide variety of styles, both vocal and instrumental.
His songs have been recorded by many diverse artists such as N’Sync, Billy Porter, Chuck Loeb, Larry Hoppen of Orleans, The New York Voices, and Warren Bernhardt.

Jon has just released his first solo CD, entitled "Folk Prayer".  This album is an organic mix of jazz, folk and blues. It features a variety of original compositions, as well as some of Jon's favorite hymns, arranged with the harmonic complexity and beauty that has become his trademark. Examples of songs from Folk Prayer
are posted on the Music page.

Jon became a Christian shortly after arriving in New York in the late 80's while attending Calvary Baptist Church. He now attends Hawthorne Gospel Church in Hawthorne, New Jersey. His goal is to reach people with a message of hope, peace and love through music that transcends styles and genres and goes directly to the heart and soul.

Jon received his training at Ithaca College, in Ithaca, NY (B.M. in piano performance) and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY (M.M. in Jazz and Contemporary Media). He currently lives in Warwick, NY with his wife Rhoda and their four daughters – Kristin, Natalie, Erika and Anna.
