Bio

Jordan Norman is a throwback singer/songwriter with influences both modern and retro. Since the age of fourteen, he has been writing and performing his own music, beginning at local venues in his hometown of Fort Saskatchewan (Alberta), and breaking into the Edmonton music scene. Performances around Alberta soon followed, and as recently as last year he was playing regularly in Dublin, Ireland, including a request from John Byrne of 93.9 Dublin South FM for a one hour interview and live performance. In January of this year more interviews were conducted in anticipation for his CD release by NAIT radio, CBC radio, Intercamp Newspaper, Vue Weekly and the Edmonton Journal.

Jordan’s musical style is a product of influences: listening to folk artists on long road trips (artists like Neil Young, Damien Rice and Dan Mangan), and spending weekends with the inventors of grunge–Nirvana and the Pixies. Along with these magicians of music, Jordan admires The Weakerthans, a band which inspires Jordan’s carefully chosen lyrics and wisdom in describing life from such a young age. Capitalizing on beautiful, acoustic-based melodies with a quiet/loud rock edge, Jordan’s music can be described as “grunge goes acoustic.”

Jordan has been back in Canada for over a year now, performing as often as he can and has just completed the recording and production of his debut album “Before We Say Goodnight”. He makes regular appearances at the Haven Social Club and can often be found collaborating and performing with local artists in and around Edmonton, such as Joe Nolan, Alex Vissia, and ‘ Prairie Nights’ including members Drew Malcolm guitarist of Tim Gilbertson and A.J. Peterson of Sister Grey. On March 20th 2010, Jordan opened for Canadian music legend John K Samson of the Weakerthans. In January of 2011 he sold out the Haven Social Club for his CD release party with Edmonton’s Christian Hansen (of the Autistics) as the opening act. Jordan is planning a western Canadian tour for the summer. This young artist continues to grow as a songwriter, performer, and instrumentalist, and is enthusiastic in taking the next steps in his career.
