José Fermín’s Latin Jazz Acoustic Ensemble

José Fermín Acoustic Ensemble is an especially personal musical project for José Fermín. Beginning in January of 2017, José Fermín began to develop an acoustic ensemble project called, “Yo Vengo de Todo Lado” but it is a project he began to develop while still living in the Dominican Republic. His creativity and ideas were enriched in New Orleans and with this project, he is exploring the possibilities of fusing many different rhythms in a contemporary and different way.  With this acoustic concert, he powerfully transforms the audience with his unique blend of music and storytelling. Accompanied by several guest musicians and paired with works of several local Latinx visual/performing artists, José Fermín performs original musical compositions whose harmony-drenched melodies compel a nostalgic feeling and whose lyrics provoke social awareness and activism. With every song, his lyrics and melodies are front and center. Able to choose from hundreds of compositions, his song choices cover New Orleans inspired Latin Blues, various Jazz compositions and a Brazilian Bossa Nova with lyrics in Portuguese. With the success of his first acoustic concert, on August 10th 2017 (Full Concert Video: https://youtu.be/34uej0PZ088); a successful second concert was also held on October 8th at Café Istanbul. This new production of the concert was designed especially to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
