Bio

José Padilla, first arrived to Ibiza in 1973 and has been DJing ever since. His sunset sets have become a legendary and essential part of the Ibiza experience. The mix tapes which he conceived and compiled evolved into the much-loved Café del Mar compilation albums. Jose Padilla’s compilations have sold over 5 million copies around the world and he has become known worldwide as the spiritual father of Chill-out.

Jose Padilla's debut album ‘Souvenir’ and solo tracks like ‘One day in Paradise’ and ‘Agua’ took twilight chill-out tones a stage further.

His follow-up album ‘Navigator’ produced a new creative peak as it sold all over the world after being launched at the Winter Music Conference 2002. Soon after, Jose was nominated for the Latin Grammys in the ‘Best instrumental’ category. Billboard magazine also commented that ‘Spaniard José Padilla... has shaped a legend across much of the world as a maestro of chill-out/ ambient music.’

A special edition of Navigator (released in the American market by Maverick, Madonna’s label) featured remixes by artists of the electronic music scene like : Paul Daley of Leftfield, Alex Neri a.k.a. Planet Funk, Francesco Farfa, Bent, etc. Even noted music icon Seal requested to put lyrics and sing to the track “Adios Ayer”.

Aside from his solo albums, Jose Padilla has compiled the well-received Cafe Solo series and the beautiful Bella Musica albums.

Jose's projects for 2012 include a special selection of jazzy tunes called “Beach Classics” for the label Blue Note, the compilation “Ibiza Sundowner” for EMI Germany and “Singita 10th anniversary” CD. He is also currently working on his next Padilla solo album.
In January of 2013 Norah Jones released an album featuring Jose Padilla’s remixes for her songs “Say Goodbye” and “Travelin’ On".

Recognized as a musical ambassador for Ibiza, Jose Padilla still brings music to the world in his sets worldwide, and he is currently hosting the weekly radio show “Back To My Roots” on Ibiza Sonica Radio.

The cool London label International Feel released his first solo album in many years "So Many Colours" to international acclaim, charts and bookings followed. The album artwork has won design awards and his videos also. The singles and remixes released were sold out on vinyl in minutes on release.

Today, Jose Padilla continues to search out the finest music from around the world to share with all the music lovers.
