Bio

Joseph Gray
Born in Rocky Mount, N.C. Got my start in music with my high school band director Charles Woods as a Drummer. Mr. Woods showed me love, discipline and overall gave me the opportunity to share my dream. But I give a great deal of my success to my grandmother Annie Lee Battle, who encouraged me in those difficult times when I thought all was lost. And to my high school English teacher Mrs. Margarite Armstrong and her husband who opened doors for me that at that time were totally unthinkable to me. I graduated from high school and went on to college and received a degree in music education. My dream came true when I came home with my first recording (Believe) and shared it with my Grandmother whom till this day her memories continues to share my thoughts and dreams. After College I taught music in New Brunswick N.J. for a year and was drafted in the Army. After returning from service I joined the recording group Cameo as a drummer and came to New York. After a not so successful tour with Cameo I landed other gigs with artists such as Lilo Thomas (Back Ground Vocalist), Angila Bofill (Back Ground Vocalist), and Lenny Kravitz (Background Vocalists). I also formed a group call stepping stone with kashif during that time. I joined the Apollo Theater as a stagehand and during my stay at the theater I joined Ray Chew and The Crew as Lead Vocalists. I continue to open the Wednesday Night Amateur Live show at the Apollo Theater and I also tour with the show as the opening act and Tour manager. Some of the music that I post on this site is from the Ray Chew and The Crew CD entitled "Feeling It."

Peace!!
